CORRECTION: Now that I have the strap off the watch, I was able to objectively measure these two discrepancies I described above.

WTF? The difference in 'lug to closed stitching' between the two pieces is less than a millimeter. Drats, I am cursed with a carpenter's eye. I also measured the width with a micrometer. It is a full 24mm. At the lugs, however, it is narrowing due to wear/break-in. Given that this leather is so super soft and pliable, it probably could have been made wider and still fit. I think Rick-Holland's Caitlin2 is a 26mm, yet he regularly wears it on 24mm watches.

Moral of the story: all I could find was minutia.

EDIT: Rick just posted this morning in a different thread that he "thought" his Gunny was 26mm, but it turns out to be 24mm instead??? Just goes to show you can't trust the interweb. Keeping you guys on your toes...

Hey Chris... Nice review. Congratulations... hope you don't continue to OCD and hone in on the 'imperfections'. If it was really blatant, I bet Gunny would replace the strap.

Anyway, how is the stitching and quality of leather?

Looking good Chris. My eye is really drawn to Shap's strap, I have to say. He's rocking this strapmaking thing!

No problems here Luke. I prefer to think of them as personality. It's hand made, so it has character. And, really none of these things are obvious. Only something you pick up on when you wear it enough to develop a sort of relationship with the strap. (that sounded wierd)

The stitching and leather are top notch. Again, lots and lots of character.

However, if you put an OCD eye on the actual lugs themselves, that tiny gap talks to you like Poe's Tell-Tale Heart. I'm more inclined to think this was oversight than intentional. Or possibly even intentional only in the interest of optimizing the number of straps coming out of some piece of leather. I'm spreading lies and rumors at this point however.

Ummmm, I finally figured out why the strap was narrowing at the lugs due to wear. It was shipped with 22mm tubes. Duh. :raised: Needless to say I've now swapped them out for a proper set of 24mm tubes. There is still a slight gap, but at least it shouldn't get any worse now.
