Not overly excited this year. The faux patina has become there standard lume. Somewhat played though I can accept that since they want to evoke that vintage history. I wouldn't mind not getting a call but did list myself for the 448/449/399. Given the quantity of these micro-editions, doubtful I will score. Then again, anything can happen by the end of the year when OP typically rolls out the releases.

The people at OP are marketing geniuses. They know that there is a cult-like following and we clamor for their SEs. But I'd wish they would bump up the production even just a little... people will still pine for them.

I agree they know what they are doing, but it still annoys the hell out of me. Instead of battling the line, flexing my little muscles, and kissing arse, I would rather go to the dive bar around the corner....

Yeah Jae, that's was the point of my failed joke. Don't get me wrong that 372 is wowza as is that Cali dialed beauty Drew posted. I was so smitten with the dial I didn't even notice the date window.

OK, I don't need this, and plexi would have been better, but damn if this isn't stunning.

Eyes on the prize though. Waiting to hear about the new "15400" from AP.

It's 41mm as opposed to 39mm, but otherwise it looks pretty much the same as the outgoing 15300; still sports the 3120 movement. The "AP" logo might move just above the 6 o'clock position as it did with the Jumbo, but I'm still waiting for confirmation on that.

Regards,
Adam

PS - There's also a new Wu-sized model that clocks in at 37mm.

Isn't there another version of the 424 w/o the date window?
Further agreement: pretty much more of the same 372-type variants; some sharp, but too limited and expensive Rads; a couple cool ceramics (but as Chris noted-they say ceramic!), and no other 44mm's!!

Rahul... I believe that's the 373 from last year's SIHH.

Jay, it's the 448. Pretty much the 249 with the P.3000 in it.

You are correct Luke. No pig on the dial. Oops. Speaking of, I hope they don't pig dial this one.

The pig is evident on the 425. If OP had to put anything at all, which I wish they didn't, I rather see a logo.

I'll try my luck on the 449 but at 500 pieces....

Good luck Luke, it's a stunner. Not sure if I wish they went with gold hands instead of blue hands though.

It's not the case material but the Minerva movement that is driving the price of this piece.

Gimmick using the "vintage" movement (name) and marking it up 2-3x over a similar watch with an already in-house movement.

Ridiculous.

Can you explain the deal with the Minerva movements?

Gimmicky or not, OPs marketing team sure knows what they are doing.

Of all the watches released at SIHH 2011, let's guess which pieces will immediately increase in monetary value.

The 399 is probably one of the safest investments you can make for 2012. Sad, but true.

Very true. One man's gimmick is another company's way to make a bunch of cash. ;)

More power to them, I guess.

Yep, make your investment, and reap the reward if you'd like (if you can get one that is). Same as the 21 and the 203.

Hmmm how many modern panerai have exceeded 20k and gone up in value? Asking because I don't know, not being smart.

The 399 could have been a home run, but they should have made the first 6154 clone as a base. But if they were going to go with small seconds,at least give it a 9 to keep it historically correct. I'm sure in the future there will be a base offering with the P3000 movement.

And the Cali dial with DATE?? I don't get that for a minute.

I knew I wasn't buying any Panerai this year anyway, but I'm happy that I'm not even tempted.
