The Great Anti-Hype Watch: Rediscovering the appeal of Panerai
Entertaining article at Revolution Watch. Published several months ago but I just stumbled on it...

Wait, Terry went to Vassar?
Re: The Great Anti-Hype Watch: Rediscovering the appeal of Panerai
I think they could probably only say that about the two and three digit Pams at this stage, having been the OG "hype watch". Modern Panerai marketing references in eSteel™ and Navy SEALs Submersibles feels a lot more about hype.

I need another 000 to go with the $4k worth of straps I have sitting in a drawer.

I would have said Panerai is one one of the watches most based on hype

I tried reading the article, but painful purple prose pimping Panerai pisses me off prodigiously.
If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.

All those guys who spent crazy money on overvalued PAMs 10 years ago are praying for a resurgence.

I’ve always stayed with the fairly basic pieces, which seem to hold fairly steady. The lower price of entry is nice too.
A Panerai with complications, gold, and other nonsense seems wrong to me.

I always liked the 233, mostly because of the case shape and domed crystal. I owned a few 1950 autos, but they aren’t as comfortable due to the thicker profile. If Panerai made a non-GMT 233 I’d probably own one.
