Yes, unfortunately.

I bought a SMP in 1999 new from an AD. I first had trouble with the bracelet releasing too soon, so it went to the local Omega rep in San Francisco. They were quite quick and did an ok job.

About 6 mos after buying the watch, it was clearly losing time heavily and took its first trip to New Jersey. 3 or 4months later it was returned. 6 months or so later it was again losing time severely (10 min a week or so). I waited a little while and then returned it, under warranty for another service. Another 3 or so months went by and it came back... but by then I'd bought another watch and wasn't wearing the Omega. So it sat in the box for about a year.

Fast forward a little bit and I started wearing it again. Still losing time. This time Omega made me pay $250 plus shipping to have it repaired, which they took another stack of months to complete. It ran ok for a good long time after this trip, but I was wearing it less and watching its accuracy less. Finally it went back again and they replaced a good portion of the movement (sent the guts back to me in a baggie). It was running well for probably 6 mos before I decided it needed to go and it was sold to Wu.

So I owned it about 10 years, Omega had it in for service better than a year and got it right once.

I'd say their service is terrible.

So Seth the SF service center only worked on the bracelet. And the one in new Jersey did a bad job on the timing problem.I live close to the SF location and was hoping they do good work.Every mechanical watch need a service every 5-7 years and my Speedy I just got is 1970's vintage who knows the last time it was done.Just thought about getting it serviced because it's cheaper to to get maintenance done before some thing major goes wrong were it would cost me more money in the long run.

The one in NJ did a bad job 4x. It shouldn't go to losing over a minute per day.

The SF repair center wasn't an option for regulation at the time. That may have changed.

Have had good success with Nesbitts - and would highly recommend them. They have done some work for me - quickly and well done. I would trust them with Vintage.

They arent an official omega service center anymore with the change over, but can still do and get all parts. If you are paying for it, then it doesnt matter.

Nesbitts is where I am sending my work in the future.

I bought a cheap watch from a crazy man
Floating down canal
It doesn't use numbers or moving hands
It always just says now
Now you may be thinking that I was had

Sorry to hijack a bit, but are there any other watchmakers that can work on a coaxial movement? Nesbits is pretty damn pricey but I may have no other choice to service my PO.
