CoAx Speedy, mini-review

Post by 425ranger » Sun Oct 03, 2010 11:36 am

Got the camera out and shot a couple close-ups. After a couple of days I can give you a sense of this watch.

1. The dial is very easy to read in any light condition. The lume is good (not PO great) and the white baton hands stand out. This model is the largest so the end effect of the spartan indices and hands kind of give it a Nomos watch effect. The date is clear but does disappear in the background nicely. I would bet if you wern't looking for it, you might miss it.

2. The bracelet is wonderful. 21mm, 5 link design, polished and satin (classic speedy style). The screws are interesting, each link is held in by a tiny tiny screw on each end and a pin blank in the middle. The screw threads are on the link not the pin in the center. It doesn't have "professional" on the clasp. it does have micro adjustment position on the clasp!! YEAH!

3. The movement is beautiful. Decorated and signed it stands out as a finely polished little engine. Adj to (5) positions.... It is running -2sec/day now.... we'll see how she settles down.

4. Operation is simple and direct. The crown is tight (seals), easy to grab and not screwed down. The buttons are free and not a screw-down type either. the button pushes down with a clean and short throw click. much better then the 7750 / 5100 I have owned.

5. It wears right at 44mm. I say this because the 45 PO seemed too big and the 42 too small. This watch is not too tall (less then the PO) and sits well on the wrist. I have a 7.75 wrist and it is very comfortable. The pic makes it look bigger then it looks IRL... The case has a polished strip on the shoulders, not too much at all.

NOTE: As it doesn't have a turning bezel I have used a couple techniques to time things. First as a standard timer. Secondly some times I will stop the sec counter hand on the min hand to "set the start" and just glance down and see how far the min hand has moved from the now stopped sec counter. And lastly, I have stopped the sec counter hand on the time I want the action to stop. So as I glace down I can see the time between the min hand and the sec counter as a "count down" style measurement.

Thanks for your time. Speedy owners PLEASE post some pic's too.

You finally have a watch worthy of offering in trade for the VSA.
