Been thinking on picking one up.
Thoughts on it? Any strong opinions either way?

I bought a cheap watch from a crazy man
Floating down canal
It doesn't use numbers or moving hands
It always just says now
Now you may be thinking that I was had
But this watch is never wrong

Not my favorite, but it's a cult classic and has its many lovers. I prefer the Breitling B1 in the ani/digi category.

I have always wanted to try one of those myself. Definitely the coolest ani-digi ever made.

Always liked it, at least until I got my hands on Zidane's 2nd gen. Now I love it. I just wish it were thermocompensated, but even so it's still a ton more accurate than any mechanical. I also wouldn't mind if it were a bit more water-resistant than my Reverso (30M), but then this watch was designed for a decidedly non-aquatic environment, so I can forgive this.

Want....on my bucket list.
Can't go wrong with the purchase....you can get your money back if it's not a hit for you.

One of the best "tool" quartz. Love everything about it.
Re: X-33 thoughts
Really cool and good looking watch. The bezel is a bit scratch prone.

Re: X-33 thoughts
I love the X-33.
Been on the to do list for long while. One of these days.
I remember reading there were some issues with crowns/tube failing and needing change.
Most likely the first Gens.
Still, I want one eventually.
I agree with Adam, wish the WR was at least 100m.
Never know, a pilot might need to deploy his parachute over waters.

Re: X-33 thoughts
really enjoyed my Gen 2 back in the day. loved the ani-digi layout as it was very legible and functions were very useable. I wore mine mostly on Zulus and looked great.
re: B-1 - always wanted to try one, but the negative display just scares me and my old eyes. Love the positive display on the X-33.

I loved my Gen-1 and really regret selling it..... cool watch and wore great on a Zulu strap. I'm seriously considering getting another one.

I loved that I could have the time (analog) displayed with full day & date in digital at the same time.

How annoying are the battery changes? I hope it is a do-it-yourself mid-range complexity project...thought I heard people doing themselves.
What are the right prices on these things? with or without bracelet?

I own both and enjoy each for their own attributes...as for battery changes, a local watch shop I frequent has changed the batteries in both and never charged me more than a few $$, typically last a couple of years depending on how the digital functions are used.
I've never had an issue with the negative display on the B1 and of course with a push of the crown...voila NVG eligibility.

Re: X-33 thoughts
Battery changes are no big deal. I actually installed a Gen-2 crown on my Gen-1 and I am NOT a DIY'er. My watch is basically a Gen-2 now, just need to replace the caseback and it will be.tmw wrote:How annoying are the battery changes? Prices differ pretty drastically between Gen-1 and Gen-2. For a Gen-1 on a bracelet I'd say a "buy" price is ~$1700-$2000 w/ everything and about $2500 for a Gen-2. If you get in at those prices, you don't stand to lose much, if anything if you had to flip. Try to get boxes and papers...the box is actually made out of space suit material. How cool is that?

I've had three X-33's but the one I currently have is a keeper. It's not just another quartz watch. Sure, my Skyhawk AT does everything my X-33 does but the X-33 has such a cool, unique look. Plus, it houses a quartz movement specifically designed for that watch which basically makes it in house to me.
