First Omega I bought brand new...

Post by Kieron » Fri Aug 19, 2011 6:59 pm

Back in '94, I bought this Speedy Auto Triple Date when they first came out. Based on the Valijoux 7750, it's actually a cal.1150, which Omega changed a year or so later to the now familiar cal.1151. The only difference is the 1150 was gilt plated, whereas the 1151 is rhodium plated, along with a couple of minor cosmetic changes. Great watch and deadly accurate although the legibility of the dial and hands can be a bit iffy in certain lighting conditions...

Yep, that is certainly cool. There's nothing that watch doesn't tell you. Admittedly, I can see where you might have trouble reading it at angles, but that is a really nice watch and a great piece of Omega history.

Ditto with the 'Date' version (rhodium plated cal. 1164). And not just my first Omega, but my first nice watch. As for the iffy legibility, you just have to angle it till it catches the light. The hands will pop off the dial then.

great looking watches and I do agree that silver dial watches with silver hands are tough to read during the day.

Both are very nice examples of a model you don't see too often
