What do you think of this combo?

Post by outtatime » Sat Jun 22, 2013 5:39 pm

I really like the black with orange stitching rubber strap for the 8500 PO, but I have the black/silver numerals model (which I'm going to be selling soon so I can buy a BNIB model-long story, but again due to bad experience buying used). Since there's a bit of orange on the dial (Seamaster writing and second hand tip) I thought that would be enough to make the strap work. I think the all black is too bland.

I'm picking one of the straps up next week, but in the mean time I mocked it up using some pics from Omega's website. What do you guys think?

I think it looks fine, even though I don't really care for the PO on that strap.

Agree with Chris. Looks "fine", but I prefer the fitted rubber. They got that right, IMHO.

Not sure I understand...this is a fitted rubber strap.

Not the same one. I should have clarified.

The one I had on my 45mm looked very different.

I like the strap.
That pic is my ideal configuration for a PO.

I like the molded rubber PO strap, not the one with the stitching. I am not sure they make it for the 8500 POs though.

I think the orange looks pretty good.....but, I'm a bit partial to white contrast stitching on this watch

Unfortunately they don't make the black/white stitched for the 8500s.

Just to clarify, these stitched rubber straps, unlike those for the 2500s, are actually rubber (not rubber-coated newspaper). While I think the stitching is "real", it's just for show (the straps are solid rubber).

That's good news!.........I heard about the rubber coated paper straps some time ago...........glad I never went that route. Too bad white stitching isn't available.

Ah, then. I didn't like the old style. Still no a fan of the stitching style, but the PO can carry it.

There were two rubber straps on the 2500;

The one that looked like a stitched strap (similar to the new 8500 rubber, but not as good) was originally a rubber or vinyl exterior with cardboard for shape, which made it fall apart after being wet. Omega changed/updated it a couple years before the PO 2500 was discontinued. Both of these were on deployant clasp.

The 2500 also came equipped with the rubber "dive strap" with standard type buckle. The 8500 doesn't come so equipped, but it fits the 8500 too, just not perfectly IMO.

All that said, I prefer the Isofrane on the 2500 anyway :)

I think the orange stitched 8500 strap looks fine, but I prefer the all black on the black/silver PO 8500.

Maybe grab the orange Isofrane for those days when you want color. It would look great too.

I like the newer style PO rubber. I used to prefer the older rugged looking strap, but the new strap seems much more attractive to me lately. That being said, an Isofrane is hard to beat.

Being perfectly honest...I hate it. But thats just my opinion.
I dont understand the point of stitching on a rubber strap, and have just never felt it belongs.

Dont know what these straps run, but I would have it on an Isofrane, and leave it alone, and probably save alot of money.

You don't want to know how much these are then. :)

I have a couple of Isofranes too, but to me this strap is a little more classy.

This strap is fitted too, but for a rugged diver look the older style wins.

That's the one. I don't know why they abandoned that design for the faux stitch rubber.

Yeah, I have one of those for my 2500 PO. Not really a fan. The rubber is really stiff and looks all dull and dirty after a couple of days wearing it.

Not my experience at all. Bought mine from omega earlier this year, and I found it very supple. I don't like Isofrane as they are too thick. The stitched kind looks cheesy, IMHO...
