Re: Celebrity Interview Re: U50 Pro!
Big thanks to Chris for taking out some time to answer a few questions on the latest U50 Pro release.
Chris Shortell Bio:
I’m 49 years old. Originally from Long Island, NY. I’m married for 17 years and I have two sons. I was with the NYPD for 21 years. 7 years ago I retired and moved to Palm Beach County, FL, where I work as a police officer in a small beach community.
Why Sinn?
I think I’ve always been attracted to German ruggedness and ingenuity. My favorite cars are VW, Audi, and Porsche. I think Sinn has a similar design philosophy, so it was a natural fit for me.
What attracted me to the U Series?
It’s just the perfect watch for a guy like me. It’s big and durable. Perfectly legible. Anyone who knows me will tell you I’m easy to read. Just like the U1.
Inspiration behind the design enhancements:
The main inspiration for the Pro is the original EZM1. I love the simplicity of the black and white dial, with small splashes of red. It has aged incredibly well. In my opinion, the original U1 has not aged as well. The red accents are just too much for me and make the watch feel a little dated (this is obviously just my opinion. I know a lot of people absolutely love the original).
I’ve always loved Destro watches, so that was important to me. It also adds to the EZM aesthetic.
The domed crystal and upgraded lume really separate the Pro from the standard model. It’s a much more premium look.
The most important change, to me, is the larger Sinn script. That one small change brought the whole dial together.
What other brand would I love to work with?
Seiko, without a doubt. I have an extensive Seiko collection that includes a few mods that look like they came direct from Seiko. Only better.
Best watch strap?
Isofrane all day. Nothing else comes close. I probably own 10 of them. My Omega Planet Ocean is always on one.
Best memory with the U1 Pro:
Definitely the day we released it. A few people knew I was working on something with WatchBuys and Sinn, but it was a well-guarded secret until I released the first images on Instagram and The Dive Watch Connection forum. To say people were excited is an understatement. It was a lot of fun watching them disappear from the WatchBuys site once they were available to order.

Super cool.
And look at that, a DWC shout out! Most of our people who do great things never mention DWC.
Can’t wait to get mine.

Where do we line up for autographs?! Lol.
Strong work man. While it’s not my cup of tea I appreciate that you go to Sinn and take account of what most want out of their daily driver.

That's one more than I have. No Twitter for me.Seppia wrote:Congrats Chris

Very cool Chris! I've always admired Sinn, but never owned one.
If I ever did, I think this would be the one.
It's very inspiring to see someone be able to turn their passion and talents into something enduring.
