Sinn Repairs - Twilight Zone Edition?

Post by namor » Fri Apr 03, 2020 7:05 am

It is no secret that the turnaround time on watch sent to Sinn Germany is usually measured in months. The finished product is always superb, but agonizingly slow. This is especially true with an oil filled EZM2, where they may often wait until they have a large batch of similar repairs and do them all at once. So my expectations were very modest when I sent in my EZM2 - basically just needed the large air bubble fixed with a new oil fill - since the last one took about 5 months.

Instead, I'm in some sort of alternate universe, with Rod Serling narrating, to wit:

They received my watch on 3/30/20 and provided an estimate for my approval the same day: complete overhaul to assure there is no aged oil in the watch, ~ $200. OK, I approved it that day. Two days later:
The repair of your watch is now completed.

Amount: 279,87 Euro

After receiving your payment we will arrange the delivery.

WTF! Its already fixed and ready to be shipped back! In TWO days? We are in uncharted territory now.

The big delays with Hydro repairs were due to moving to the new facility. Now that everything is up and running things are running much better.
That’s still ridiculously fast.

A global pandemic just might decrease demand for luxury watch servicing.

Don't be surprised if you get dinged for duties too.

True to their word - EZM2 arrived today, less than two weeks from the day they got it. New battery, fresh oil, and, not sure why, but the service included installing a brand new caseback, with new serial number on it. The receipt shows the old and new numbers, so my paperwork is still consistent. Not even a hint of a bubble!
