556 on the brain
Like the look of old explorers, and while perusing the net I saw that the 556 and 656 has a similar look and feel. Looks like some real deals have been available on the forums ($500-600)!
Anyone had any experience with these? Thinking of a lower key work watch.

Re: 556 on the brain
I think yobokies has seiko that is modded like this watch. which would be a decent beater also for a cheap price. but aren't these watches like 38mm?

Clean, simple dial
....but it is a 38.5 MM case...

Re: 556 on the brain
Contact Matt (Smalls) for his thoughts. I wonder if he still as it.

Re: 556 on the brain
I want one too...
Re: 556 on the brain
I had one for a while. It was highly functional, looked good on bracelet, straps and Nato and I had no complaints about it at all, but it was smaller and sorta bland in the end and I sold it because I had others that were more interesting. If I did not have such a wandering watch eye, it would be a great one watch option in its price range. I believe I have a pic of it next to a bunch of similar sized watches. If can find it, I will post it.
Edit: Here you go.

I was looking at the 556 as well.....had the SBiii and the MKII Vantage in the past.
in the end I chose the BALL below... slightly bigger, slightly different look.

Re: 556 on the brain
All great info, thanks. I've been looking at Tudor ranger, but those are too small. The Sinn at 38.5 is fine...I'm not a big watch guy.
I have been watching with interest Eddies pending release of the ZEX , an explorer like model under the Smiths brand. Myoto movement, but at $4-500 I can get a used 556/656/Tudor prince.
Something to think about.

Re: 556 on the brain
Mike, I had the 556 briefly. It was a casualty of war in the flipping game. I had to flip it when I was getting $$ for the Sea Dweller. Definitely a cool watch and looked great on the bracelet, NATO, strap, etc. I am really thinking about another one ... soon. I like it BECAUSE it is smaller. Probably one of the most legible dials out there, and the AR makes it look like there is no crystal at all. Get one if you can, you should not have any problem flipping it.

Mike
I really enjoyed the heck out of mine. I no longer have it b/c I had too many similar watches. It's not a light, put in on and forget about it watch. When you are wearing it you know it's on and it feels like a indestructible tool watch. The qualities of Sinn watches are very evident, at least IHMO. Also, the bracelet I had was a 656 bracelet, but I highly recommend the bracelet.

Re: 556 on the brain
Its 43mm so nit a small watch but smaller than the mb2. It has blue lume on everything so it beats the iwc mark xvi there. Mvement is a 2824 base that is bremont modified. Hardened case.giosdad wrote: Nice Jae,

I think its supposed to be the second least expensive bremont. I expect retail new negotiated price to be probably around 2900-3000
Re: 556 on the brain
sorry I'm late to the party boys, but like the others have said it's a great watch. It might not have a lot of polish or extra features, but what it does have, it does very well. The black date wheel and the gloss black dial are sweet and it is easily the most legible watch I own. I wish the bracelet were tapered but I think that's me just liking the Sub bracelet a lot. I have thought about selling it in the past, but for the money I would get there's no way I could let it go. This watch is a steel at $700-800 and just as good a bargain at $1000. This summer I'll probably throw on some natos and head for the water. It certainly has that Explorer feel and is super comfortable to boot. I think you'll be happy with this one Mike.....until a vintage Doxa shows up.

I'd tell this guy to f-off. http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t= ... 1230&rid=0
Wasn't that close to a new price? This on the other hand, http://forums.watchuseek.com/f29/sold-s ... 09973.html, could be a decent deal if you want the look without the price.

Re: 556 on the brain
I think I remember on strap it going for 600-750 or so. On bracelet, probably more.
Who knows with watch prices these days, I feel like an old man, not sure how much things cost anymore.

Mike, I could clown you, but why? It's not funny anymore...you sir, have issues.
You're my guy though. Good luck with this endeavor, I think Kenneth wears one of these girl watches.
