857 on its way back to Frankfurt again
Re: 857 on its way back to Frankfurt again
One thing when you ship a watch for repair I think some times the watch is not treated to good on the rebound trip. Any one seen the fedex video on the news lately they were throwing the boxes in the truck like footballs. When I got my Heuer from Germany it was slow by 30 minutes and it was service I was told by the seller I think watch get knocked out of wrack like you said it stopped when it was on your wrist I think the return treatment when being shipped caused some of the problems one reason I use a local watchmaker. Or if you have to ship a watch for repair next day shipping the less time fedex or any mail service has it the less damage they can do to a watch.

Your watch could of been in one of those boxes that's why I use local watchmaker.

That's certainly possible but I would have thought they could have repaired such an issue the first time I sent the watch back. Pretty unlikely it got damaged the same way (with the same symptom) twice.River Rat wrote:One thing when you ship a watch for repair I think some times the watch is not treated to good on the rebound trip. all very frustrating, Andrew... sorry to call it a lemon w/o knowing the full story...
yes, they've fucked up... not the first time it's probably happened either... but the ridiculous back and forth shipping is unfortunately part of the deal until they get a full-service repair center here, if ever...
send me a PM, I might be able to help...
cheers,
Peter

The irony is that my 857 UTC was made before they were filling them with Ar so it technically did not have to be serviced at the factory (they did fill it with Ar as part of the service, however). I had heard lots of negative feedback on RGM's service and I figured the factory was the ideal place to have the work done so I sent it there. Questioning that decision at this point.

Sorry guys, I should have updated this thread. I think I may have started another with an update but can't seem to find it. Anyway, during the last trip back to Sinn they put a brand new ETA movement in the watch and it's been running fine ever since. Really glad to have it back on the wrist again, it took a LONG time to get this resolved.

Now you should sell it before the next service

I'm guessing instead of this being Sinn's mistake it could've been ETA's.

Well, the watch ran fine for 5 years and didn't start acting up until it was serviced so I'd say ETA isn't to blame.Jcp311 wrote:I'm guessing instead of this being Sinn's mistake it could've been ETA's.

Fair enough, I missed that bit. Oh well, glad you got it back in good order (this time).

wow. terrible! I am concerned about the brand-- I'm about the dive in and get a long-desired U1. Hopefully since there are no complications it will be solid. Do you have to send to Sinn for repairs? With my IWC and UN I bring them in to the local Tourneau store, and they handle shipping back and forth, as well as add a warranty on for a year... assumed that they would handle Sinn to, maybe not.

The watch was perfectly solid, it ran without a hitch for 5 years. Something happened during routine service that screwed up the movement. If the watch is under warranty then Watchbuys (the only authorized dealer in North America) will take care of it for you. Otherwise you're on your own. You can send the watch to Sinn in Frankfurt or RGM in the US. RGM can't service all models (like those filled with Ar) but they can handle the U1.drakoff wrote:wow. terrible! Although servicing my watch turned out to be a big pain Sinn tried hard to resolve the issue and ultimately did. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Sinn watch and did since this happened.
