my experience w Doxa CS

Post by MagnumsGMTMaster » Sat Feb 09, 2013 9:14 am

I'm new to the whole watch collecting thing with a particular fondness for dive watches and fliegers. I've lurked on this and many other fora for months now. I created an account just to give my experience with Doxa to the community.

This isn't a long and involved story of woe. It ended well. And I have no first hand experience with an actual Doxa watch because I returned mine before I even got to experience it.

I lusted after the Doxa 1200T Pro for some time before I finally pulled the trigger. Almost immediately I regretted my decision purely on economic grounds. I wanted it so bad, but the cost was really beyond my means. So I decided to return it unopened. This is when I went online to research other people's experiences with Doxa's customer service, and return policy in particular. Needless to say to all of you, I was horrified.

Well it took awhile, and Doxa gave me numerous conflicting signals about what it would cost in restocking and customs fees, but they did refund my money in full including the shipping. I was prepared to be very disappointed, but was instead pleasantly surprised. Yes, they return emails slowly and they at first wanted to deduct $150 for customs and shipping. I only mildly objected because I figured I had it coming for ordering before I was ready (and for not researching other people's experience with the company beforehand). I was unfailingly polite with them on the phone and by email as they were with me. I don't know if this helped, but it couldn't have hurt.

My impression was and is that the Jenny family companies are a very small shop. I imagine that they tread a very fine line between maintaining a viable business and being responsive to customers, which can be a big expense for a small company. I will one day hopefully own a Doxa. I love the whole aesthetic and retro feel of the watch. It's a classic no matter who is the current brand name owner and manufacturer. As I understand it, it is a brand that has had numerous corporate owners through the years due to mergers, acquisitions and crises in the Swiss automatic watchmaking world. Yet despite a hiatus in the 80s and 90s, it has come through.

I think everyone on this board and who has ever owned a Doxa really want Doxa to succeed. Watches are like cars. For those who are truly into them, the connection is lifelong and personal. This fact can be abused. It can also be nurtured into not only an enthusiastic community but also into a highly lucrative business. Spend some time among the Rolex crowd to understand this. The Jenny family has a winner with the Doxa brand. They did well by me. I will be back to buy again when I can afford it because they accepted my return and didn't punish me for it. I just hope they survive and continue to do the right thing for every customer.

I think Doxa is only interested in money and they only care about their history from a monetary standpoint personally. It aint illegal and a lot of businesses do it so I don't hold it against them. Rolex does the same thing to a certain extent but Rolex is a large corporation that was built from the ground up and is a rock solid company focusing on their customers from today, last year, and in 1980. A lot of good paying jobs and happy employees there as well. As I type this mentioning Doxa and Rolex in same context is completely assanine. Can you send a vintage watch into Doxa for a full rebuild and service-fuck no?

I suppose it is different to say I'm relieved I didn't get screwed instead of I'm happy with their customer service. Ideally, Doxa should be bought out by a company with the horsepower and company culture to make the whole experience first rate.

I absolutely love my two Doxa's but my experience with their CS makes me think they are just money grabbers.
Of course, when i exposed the fact they wanted to charge me an outrageous $78 plus $25 shipping for one bracelet end link,in their WuS forum, they quickly changed their tune and it became $19.
If i had paid their asking price would they have kept it or refunded me $59.....
Trouble is,they are so inconsistent, you either get great customer service or a raw deal from them
When it comes to Doxa, this is a never ending subject.

Seems like they did right by you but being able to return an unopened item for full refund is a remarkably low metric to judge a company by.

Doxa is just a bunch of guys who bought a name (or leashed it) from Jenny to make a profit off of history that has no correlation with the current owners.

And their CS is so hit and miss who in the hell would want to take a chance with them and not just buy a used one??? I would not that is for sure.

My only problem with Doxa is there inconsistency. Seems like its just whoever you get on the phone over there makes up a number. That said, I love my Numa and can't seem to stay away from the brand.

I've had 4 different versions, none at the present.

Most likely won't add one in the future, way too many nightmare CS stories
out there discourage me from wanting to wear one again.

However, they are interesting and I miss the TUSA.

Yeeeaaaahhh....

They make it so hard to be a fan, sometimes. As I've said before....two guys and a case of beer. I still have a soft spot for the 1000 series. I have been trying to get a replacement screw bar for an 800 Pro since October '12.....

One added bit of info makes me skeptical that Doxa is doing all that well. The 1200T Pro I was sent had a low series number, in the 300s. For a watch with a limited run of 1200 and that's been out since, I believe, 2010, I was surprised they hadn't moved more of them. Could just be the model is less popular, but it seems just as likely that they are reaping the reward of the poor customer service they have become known for - and for the QC issues that seem to be a lesser issue over all.
