How can choosing a watch be so hard.

Post by snootydog » Mon Sep 04, 2023 11:21 pm

Decided a while ago I'd sell off some of my watches and get a final one as I'm now semi retired.
It's going to be a Tudor & it's going to be a 39mm.
We visited a Tudor AD yesterday as I've never even seen a Tudor for real. Now, I really like the Pelagos no date, the sunburst dial is nowhere near as reflective as I'd read about but at the moment it's only in black so I think that's off the list. The blue BB58 on bracelet is the front runner but the sterling silver one is really really nice and I'd get that one but there are downsides to it. Silver can scratch easily, I don't know how easily though. No bracelet option for that one either and I tend to use a bracelet more than a strap. They offered me £300 off the blue one which is great but a good used one is probably the way for me.
Pam was no help at all, her comment on each one was "it's a watch". Still no idea which I'll get.

The Tudor Pelagos in 39mm is the best watch that Rolex made since the five digit era IMO.
Since it has entered my collection it has been monopolizing my wrist so bad that I even though for a second about selling my 14060M.
For the BB, have you considered the BB54? The extra thinness is what makes me love it and you don’t seem obsessed with watches “not being small”

I love my BB58 blue! I would also love to try the Pelagos 39 but have not yet. Another great thing about either watch is Forstner and Uncle Seiko make great aftermarket bracelets for them so you can change it up and keep it interesting! Good luck and you can’t really go wrong with any Tudor as far as I’m concerned!

I think you need the Ranger Image

39mm so wears the same as BB58, but has T-fit adjustable clasp. Matte dial, boxes sapphire crystal. I know a guy who has one for sale too! Image🥸

The BB54 would definitely be too small for me. I was wearing my Speedmaster at the time and although only a few millimetres bigger than the BB58 it looked considerably larger because of the dial size.
The Ranger really isn't my type of watch either

When Pefer gave me his BB58 blue to list for him I got to take it on a test drive. It was great on the Forster bracelet worth the stretch link- but personally I got bored with it… I don’t know why. It’s a beauty but just didn’t keep my interest.

Years back I went to my nearest AD and tried on the Pelagos LHD and I really liked it. Loved the dial and the feel of that watch.
I really want to go try the new 39 and see if I love it as much. My U50P is currently my favorite watch, but man I wish it had an adjustable clasp- I think the Pelagos 39 has one?

But if I was slimming down and going with one I would have to go with an old Sub.

Pefer still has his blue 58 for sale BtW.

Good luck with the decision process.

Yes the Pelagos 39 has a micro adjustment clasp, similar to the one on the BB54.

If I were going to 1 watch only probably I’d be selling everything and consolidating into a Coke/Pepsi 16710 in as good condition as I could find

Did your AD have a BB Pro? If a 58 wears a little small on you, the Pro will probably have just enough extra midcase height to feel perfect.

I could wear this watch every day (and pretty much do).

They did have that one and I like it but didn't look at it because I knew bringing another into the mix would make choosing even harder

I haven't seen a Pelagos 39 IRL yet, but I love the specs and the photos. That'd be my vote based on the ones you mentioned.

I have a BB58 black dial for sale now doesn’t have original bracelet but you could do what I did for my BB58 blue and get the T-Fit Ranger bracelet for it (no rivets on that either). Just a suggestion LOL. I’m wearing my Tudor BBPro right now and it is also a great watch as others have said above.

I’ll post pictures of my BB58 blue tomorrow to make your choice even harder 😂

For semi-retirement you need to convince your wife you need a rotation of 4 watches, diver, GMT, pilot, and dressy or 3 if you combine GMT & pilot. Oops I forgot you also need a chronograph!

You should do marketing pics for Tudor. I don't like GILT at all and I think that looks great!

I agree.

If they did that watch, that size, without gold I would own it.

The gold in person is not as in your face as I thought....I finally saw one in person and was pleasantly surprised.
It's more reddish / bronzey / earthy than bright yellow gold to my eyes.

of course I have to wear (strong) bi-focals so what do I know

I owned one for a minute. The 58 is a wonderful watch, I just can’t do any gold. Maybe one day if I move to Florida and start going to dinner with Shorty at 4:30 pm.

Honestly 430pm is my preferred going out to dinner time. No crowds, no wait, no annoying people, and you can still be in bed by 9pm.

I should take up knitting as well.
