Just got this baby today.

Post by warren G. » Thu Jul 07, 2011 8:07 pm

I fall in love with wristwatch about 4 years ago when my best friend gift'd me my first automatic Seiko on my 18th birthday. He isn't an WIS. I randomly told him it would be cool to own an automatic watch. That Seiko started it all for me. I been through a handful of different watches over the years. To be completely honest, Rolex was never on my radar. I thought it was great company with an amazing history. But I never care for it, design wise and the stigma that was attached to it. That all changed about 9 months ago when I was visiting my favorite AD. The salesman was wearing a vintage 5513. It was the first Rolex that made me go "WOW..." It basically impregnated my mind. It was really random. I wasn't planning for another watch. I was pretty content with my Speedmaster. I never consider another watch, let alone a Rolex. So I was bitten by the Rolex bug.

I spend months and months researching and visiting various AD. Basically I was just catching up with Rolex. I tell you what, I learn so much from this forum. Everything from the references, movement, dials, and etc. Since I started my journey. I fall in love with Rolex. In the beginning I was really set on a 5513 (meter first). For the longest, it was the Rolex I was aiming for. As time past, I started to look at my other options. The 1680 Red and 1675 suddenly made into my list. After I spend some time thinking. In the end, I decide a modern Rolex would make me more happy.

So this where I basically got really confused. I mean I try on every single piece I have in mind except for one. I was so lost, didn't know what I wanted because every single of them really sing to me. Every week I had a different Rolex in mind. One week would be the 16610 LV, then next would be a 16710 Coke, or Exp Polar. Then it finally hit me. I realize I didn't try on the Sea-Dweller. I mean for the past 7 months, it didn't came cross my mind really. Because I was doing some much vintage research. The double red SD was way over my budget. After I made a few phone call. I manage to find one person with it. He let me try it on and boom. The deed was done. I wanted this watch. It was perfect and it sing to me like a gospel choir. So now I have the watch in my mind and the cash. I started my hunt for an early series SD. I wanted lug hole, and tritium gloss dial would be a plus. I just wanted to thank LawrenceB. I bought two Rolex from him the past months. He is a great seller and shipped instantly. This whole journey took me almost 9 months. I had to sacrifice my Speedy, DateJust, and I been working like a dog this summer to raise the funds for it. But it was so worth it.......... I had the money to buy it 9 months ago. But I never blow all my load on one purchase. Now I'ma celebrate with a cigar with a local WIS and enjoy my 3rd day off for the past 65 days.

I'm also afraid this is not the end of it. I'm 21 and I'm looking forward to have this watch on my wrist as I live life.

This isn't my best wrist shot. The watch fits like a dream and this picture doesn't do justice. Weird angle I suppose.

Congrats on a cool watch buddy. You always hate to give up a watch, but that is definitely worth it. Don't worry, I'm taking good care of your Speedmaster. Next time I'm in New Orleans, we'll have to burn a cigar. I want to check out that Dweller.
