Day at the track

Post by demer03 » Thu Sep 16, 2021 6:22 pm

Had a cool experience today. One of my clients had a team-building get together at the Autobahn Country Club in IL today, and I was invited to join as a presenter. Afterward we did the go-cart tracks and the coupe-de-grace was an hour on the big track with a choice of super cars.

Although I’m a died in the wool American muscle lover, the Mustang felt like a pig after a handful of different Lexus and BMWs. The lotus was a scream. C8 corvette was amazing. The car that shocked me was the M8. I literally, involuntarily, shouted “holy fuck” when I punched it on the straightaway. It hit 100 and my chest felt like it was shoved back into the leather. I guess, for $154,000, it should…but damn!

Fun day!

Buddy has a couple vettes. One of his:

This Lexus was fun. Deep growl.

But the M8….

Corvette was a blast

I could barely get my shoulders in the Lotus…man that handled like something else.

It was. I’ve taken no time off this year but for three days. I didn’t realize how much I needed to do something like this. I honestly feel like I had a vacation.

Very cool. I love the track. We’ve been very fortunate to wind up where I can be on track 4-5 days a month now.

Lucky, Seth. I feel like I really had a chance to shake off some burdens. Yep would do this regularly, if I had the opportunity.

It’s a total drug. I stare at the calendar looking for random weekdays I can sneak out of the shop. I encourage you to come visit sometime. While there’s nothing good in this little town otherwise, it does hide for one of one of the finest country club track resorts…. My shop is in the track complex. We can go from sitting around shooting the shit to on track in under 10 minutes.

Amazing cars. I've driven an Exige, Elise and the first-gen Evora and they were all a blast. I'm 6'4" tall so the Elise and Exige were a pretty tight squeeze, but I'd fold myself into one of those any time, great fun.

How was the build quality of the new Evora? The first gens were terrible.

“OK” is all I’d say. It’s hard, and you might say unfair, because when next to Lexus and BMW….not remotely in the same league.

Not surprised. They're trying to compete with Porsche but build quality always seems to let them down. Not much else like it in the driving department, however.

That sounds like a great day. I wonder if the M8 was that good what the M5 would be like. Supposed to be awesome.
