DWC Sports Forum bringing you the agony of defeat...

Post by hazmatman » Tue Oct 26, 2010 11:08 am

Welcome to DWC's Wide World of Sports. Today we turn our gaze on the automotive world and the pinnacle of what some are calling "Mullet Engineering."

We give you...the Camaroghini!

Also it seems that US television is attempting to yet again convert a UK success on the shores of the former colonies, even after NBC failed two years ago, the History channel is set to debut their own USA version of Top Gear. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Gear_(U.S._TV_series) The pilot is set to broadcast on 21 November: http://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-news/t ... 98453.html

The result may, or may not, be very interesting. Hopefully we can find an American Stig NOT from the NASCAR world. Not that NASCAR drivers are not true sportsmen, but some might not fit in the slim white racing overalls...mmm, Tony Stewart.

Thank you for watching DWC Wide World of Sports.

I was looking at that car last night :puke:

I hate when people do things like that, or convert whatever it is to a Testarosa look-a-like or anything similar.

My guess is it is the "quickest-looking" car in the Walmart parking lot...that is until our proud owner fires it up and we learn it probably has an anemic V6 which is only running on 4-5 cylinders, and while we can no longer see it through the haze of blue-white smoke from the massive amounts of blow-by oil being consumed, we can hear its knocking pistons and screeching belts for miles. Thus, running or standing still...it makes a statement.

Surprisingly, it does not have a set of chromed plastic testicles hanging under the rear bumper - as is our want here in rural America.

There is also supposed to be a Top Gear Russia!?!

None will be the original, and while it is true that each successful spin-off dilutes the panache of the original, each of them comes with a hefty check which the BBC will quickly deposit along with all the residuals until the shows shut down...leaving the original (if Clarkson can still stomach the BBC and vice versa).

No reason to step away from a bad idea if someone thinks they can make a few paychecks off of it in the meantime. How do you think we got into the global financial mess? If someone said from the outset, "Hey, all these financial derivatives and CDS's are way too risky. The mortgage backed ones are based on loads of sub-prime notes that are bound to fail. I only see a few years of brisk profit to be made on these things...we should not do this."

I'm quite sure that if AIG, BNP Paribas, Northern Rock, Bear Stearns, & Bradford and Bingley had that information up front, they would have walked away from such dealings.

NOT.*

Never let facts and logic interfere with the ability to make profit, much less a real grasp of fiduciary responsibility. Conscience and morals are never part of the equation.

If money were to be made, we'd be watching a sneak peek online of Top Gear Zimbabwe.

*The same can probably be said for the fiasco that was started in Iraq back in 2003. Hmmm, so you think we'll be able to complete combat operations in a 3-5 months, and then we'll probably have 3-4 years of substantial security and infrastructure contract profits before it all collapses on itself??? Sure, we're in.

Ahhh, Mullet Engineering...
The famed producer of Redneck ricers. The uncontrollable urge to add misc parts to enhance the appearance of performance.
The inspiration for these marvels of motor masterpieces is usually attributed to this fine fella,

and his lovely wife. (obliviously a master of ingenuity)

spawning such fine feats as
The spray painted fog lights,

The mondo wing,

the ultra mondo wing,

And for the frugal shopper in all of us,
The budget wing,

From these humble beginnings a new generation of redneck ricers were born. More affluent, they were able to take their creativity even further into the realm of the unimaginable,

Image

Image

Not too be outdone, generation Supawubb took it to a whole notha level producing this lovely Rolls Royce Silver cloud Limo,

Carrying the Blushing Bride,

While the true genius behind this phenomenon is unknown. Many insiders believe that the original redneck ricer was none other than our very own Mark "Luke Skywalker" Hamill's corvette, from the cinemagraphic masterpiece Corvette Summer.
Ken (Hamill) is a high school student who dreams of driving Corvettes. His passion leads him to a perfect job as a Corvette mechanic, but he is soon embroiled in his boss's dirty dealings.

That is one fugly car. I can't wait fo Top Gear US. I know it will never match the original, the hosts just work so well together they seem like they are old friends.

I'll see it to see how the show is, but the original is just too good to be matched. It's those hosts and their style that has made the show great. They did unique things and were offensive, all which led the show to reach new heights. Also the standard formula of getting a race car driver, a comedian, and a office guy isn't the best as they should get three guys who are unique and work well together (that is what the original is). I hope the US version will work, but I watched a couple episodes of the Australian version and didn't think it was even close to the UK version.

I have been watching last season on DVD this week. Star in a reasonably priced car is my favorite segment. Sienna Miller made that open face helmet look great.

Well played, especially the Hamill Corvette Summer reference. That vette was the ugliest thing on the planet...almost as bad as Hamill's acting...although Annie Potts was pretty perky.
