I’ve never understood how people can think a gigantic electric hummer/f150/cyberturd is better for the environment VS a fuel efficient 4 cylinder ICE.

Then I remind myself 99.9% of people can’t do math, but I would have hoped the 10.1% of us who do should have been able to educate the rest.
I just read that tire manufacturers have now needed to design a new class of car tires that are capable of standing up to the 5000+ pound weights of these EVs. There’s no way that you can replace every car on earth with an alternative that weights 1000-2000 pounds more and not creat some seriously negative unintended consequences.

Not to mention that one of the only things that might be worse for the planet than oil extraction is... the mining of rare earth minerals.
This is exactly my concern, especially when China accounts for 95% of the worlds production of rare earth minerals, and we all know their environmental record.

Also our electrical grid is going to need a monumental upgrade to even come close to handling the charging of all the electric vehicles in the future. For the foreseeable future I still see a huge need for fossil fuels, and hopefully until my driving days are over.

I've been hearing the sky is falling climate alarmists for most of my 60+ year lifespan, so I'll finally admit to climate change.

It's called Spring, Summer, Fall, & Winter. Image

We're being pushed into electric cars, while at the same time, massive power plants are slated to be decommissioned (the Mystic Generating Station just outside Boston, for one example).

One has to wonder if the goal is to get us out of ICE-powered vehicles, or to get us out of personally-owned vehicles altogether. You know, the "you'll own nothing, and you'll be happy" jibber-jabber. :stir: Of course, the elite will still roll around in their enormous SUVs.

Lol. It’s cool for a crossover, probably similar in size to the Mach-E. I prefer the hot hatch size of the eGolf it replaces. Seats 5 (no third row) with a large back hatch and trunk storage. Potential range on these is only 260mi or so, which in my experience isn’t real word driving highway speeds in S. Florida. Decent acceleration up to 90+, with adaptive cruise (not self driving), panoramic roof, touch screen interface basically handles everything except windows, locks, and gear selector.

I hate these ultra modern minimalist interiors. VW is going downmarket with their redone interiors in general, but this style really highlights it.

Counterpoint: I love the ultra modern minimalist interiors.... but Tesla takes it too far in the model 3 with no center screen. Nice change from the 90's cars with 10,000 plastic buttons.

BMW I3 struck the perfect balance. One of my favorite modern car interiors.

Honda has also done a nice job in the new Civic with balance. Nice contrast from recent Honda's that are a mess of buttons and plastic.

I don't know. I miss the center console on my 1990s Audi A4. At night when all the buttons lit up in red I'd pretend I was in a spaceship.

My parents had a Boneville SSEI back in the 90's. I believe this was peak button. Of course after a few years half of the TEN seat position buttons didn't work.

I kinda agree w/you on that one. I like a car dash to look like a car dash. From what I've seen in pictures, I am liking the Volvo Recharge ones. We just don't have the infrastructure in place where I live for an EV vehicle to make any since right now.

There's one thing wrong with every car interior above. The gear shift isn't manual. I know it's a drag during traffic but I still miss manual.

Saw a Lexus GX470 this morning with lift kit, big knobbies, rear mounted spare, roof mounted pop-up camper tent, and snorkel.
we have those everywhere here. they look pretty sweet
Wow I’ve never seen a Lexus done up that way. It was a jarring sight. The pretentious survivalist.
The GX isn’t pretense. It’s fairly fucking capable bro
