Top 10 for me-might be the movie I've seen the most. Book paled in comparison IMO. I did see the movie long before the book though so it could be the "Goodfellas" vs. "Casino" theory in action.

Goodfellas was from the book 'Wiseguys'. They had to change the name because of a tv show with the same name.moishlashen wrote:Top 10 for me-might be the movie I've seen the most. Yes-good point.
The theory is since the movies are so similar right down to their casts-whichever one you see first is your preference of the 2. You can like both-I do-but most people like whichever one they saw first the best.

The Martian, or at least just as good. Great book, great movie.
Re: Movie better than the book.
Agreed Martian was just as good. Main differences were the extra details in the book. The story line followed about as close as possible. And the casting was phenomenal.

In my experience very few movies are better than the book. Can't think of any at the moment except maybe as mentioned Jaws.

cheers,

Oooh. Good one. The book was a bit of a tough read being written from the point of view of someone with mental illness but ya a great book and movie.kfalk wrote:One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest though a bit different, was as good as book.

You have to read some Chuck Palahniuk. Fight Club is an absolute must.

the book was a tough read the first time through. watched the movie, read the book again and it was a lot easier.

Re: Movie better than the book.
I worked in a book store for a year before law school and saw several of Palahniuk's books. Completely forgot "Fight Club" was one of them. I mainly remember "Choke."aikiman44 wrote:You have to read some Chuck Palahniuk. Fight Club is an absolute must.

Re: Movie better than the book.
One book I'd love to see made into a movies is "a confederacy of dunces".
Jaws and one flew over the cuckoos nest are of course two classics that out did the book.

That book must have been horrible!

Re: Movie better than the book.
Jaws and The Godfather already mentioned, and I agree with both (and both are on my top ten list). Never read One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, but the movie is outstanding. Never read A Clockwork Orange, but didn't really like the movie.
Read and saw Fight Club. Hated both. Really hated.
I'd add The Silence of the Lambs. I'm not sure the movie was better than the book, but it was at least as good.
On edit: Mystic River and Out of Sight.
