I had my 996.1 GT3 for 15 years. I sold it at 20 years old with 69,000 miles on it, but it was hardly a daily driver.

What’s the story with the lotus 7 in your avatar?

The first car I owned was a Honda civic, it lasted 14 years and 150k miles in Italy* between me and one of my best friends I sold it to.
He only sent it in for destruction as in Italy we often have incentives where they hand you money to upgrade older cars for new (less polluting) ones.
So the older the car is, the more it makes sense to send it in - the government puts a floor on your car value.

Comprehensive list of things that needed repairing throughout the life of the vehicle:
- 1 front right head light
- 1 driver seat side window motor (the one that pulls the windows up and down)

I think in 15 years you may see some Korean cars creep up that list. Kia, Hyundai and Genesis (same company) share many of the qualities that Japanese cars had in spades 15-25 years ago: great value for money, great warranties, very reliable.

*miles in Europe put more wear and tear VS the average US mile: it's mostly city drive, much less highway, the roads are not great etc.

I would agree with the Kia/Hyundai statement up until they started using their GDI garbage engine. My 2015 sonata engine blew at 93k miles. It has 2+ class action lawsuits and I honestly don’t know how Kia/Hyundai are not bankrupt. They have reputation for combusting into flames. I saw one on the highway a few years ago with my own eyes and I only wish it happened to mine so I could get insurance money.


I had an older Kia optima that I put a ton of miles on and it ran great. I think it was a 2005. I put 100k+ miles on it and it only needed a timing belt and oil changes.


2003 4Runner runs great but has multiple electrical issues, check engine light has been on for years. But big issue for it is frame rust.

Our 06' Saab wagon is at 218k. Kid drives it these days. We have owned since 2009. Yes we had to do some upkeep to it over the years.
