Got scammed

Post by deepcdvr » Tue Jan 02, 2024 6:53 pm

FAK

Been buying/selling/trading for 20 years and although many have tried to scam me, I’ve always caught them in the act; not this time.

I reached out to FuII_Television8757 about buying a Doxa via Reddit chat after replying on his thread.

About 3 minutes later he sent me a message (not a chat) and said he saw my post but his chat doesn’t work from his office. Anyway, we made a deal and I sent him $1250 via the Wise app. He immediately sent me a USPS tracking number which had not yet been activated. No biggie as he said he’d ship the next day.

An hour later I got a chat from him and he said “were you going to message me about the Doxa?”.

I then went to my messages and checked - I had been chatting with - and sent money to - FuII_Television8757.

See the difference?

No?

The address above actually uses two capital i’s - not lower cased L’s.

Dude has since vanished.🤦🏻‍♂️

fuck! man that sucks. I got so paranoid selling my watches on Chrono24 recently that I was dismissing mofos left and right before settling on the eventual buyers of several watches I sold there. Sorry you got scammed.

I’ve had nothing but good transactions (buy and sell) on Chrono24 - What I dont like (but understand) is the the escrow timing to get my money. But, I just sold a Navitimer on there and would have been super nervous selling something that expensive anywhere else - especially on Reddit.

That sucks! Sorry that happened. I had a similar issue with buying something. They even went as far as showing the tracking showed it delivered. PayPal said that since I’d received it they weren’t going to do anything. USPS is currently working on it. We’ll see how it ends up. I hate feeling like a sucker or stupid for falling for it.

Sorry Paul. I been lucky always got what I paid for they might have lied about the description once got a US Navy WW2 comparing watch that had a hand made gear in the movement and was a pain to find the part to correct it. Don't understand Reddit so look but never buy from it. Just forums here and the MWR forum and eBay and use PayPal in hopes if I get ripped off, I might get my money back.

That sucks! I can only imagine the amount of rage going through your head when you first knew.

I'd be going over getting payback in my head for months.

Thanks to all - yeah, it sucks and makes me want to cause someone physical pain but bottom line is that I was at fault and on the upside learned a lesson.

I was able to track the money transfer from the app people to the Philippines but it’s a dead end from there.

Paul, did you pay with your bank or a credit card?
Maybe try and see if either can help you reverse it and get your money back??

That's a classic scam tactic. The scammer likely created two very similar usernames, hoping you'd overlook the subtle difference. By the time you realized the discrepancy, they'd vanished with your money. It's a frustrating situation, especially for someone with your experience. Unfortunately, even the most cautious can fall victim to these increasingly sophisticated scams  . Have you considered reporting this incident to Reddit or the Wise app? They might be able to assist in tracking down the scammer or preventing others from falling prey to the same scheme.

Got scammed

Post by Chocodove » Wed Jul 31, 2024 7:13 pm

This thread is over seven months old and was bumped by a scammer, as Dave and Hop pointed out. Wherever Paul is (probably under the sea somewhere), he’s probably long forgotten about this.

Regardless, hope he’s well. Been a while.
