Great-grandfather's Elgin

Post by force_quit » Mon Jan 04, 2010 7:52 am

I know nothing about this watch other than it belonged to my great-grandfather. It doesn't run (I assume, I'm afraid to wind it) and is in somewhat rough shape. From River Rat's link it looks like it was made in 1887. Does anyone know where I might start getting it repair or even getting an estimate. I think I'd get it running rather than mint restored (if that were even possible).

Anyway here are some photos:

That's a real beauty. It would be awesome to see it up and running and restored to its former glory.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Force_quit glad I was able to help. For getting your watch repaired look in the phone book and do some calling and ask a lot of questions ask if they work on older watches not one of those places that just do batteries. The cost should be 100-150 more than that is to much.I like doing it local if possible only special work will I ship like a relume and other work done on it since they have it for that. These older watch more things go wrong in shipping.I will look for a web site I saw were they have qualified watch maker's if I remember you put your zip code to see if there is one near you.

You look at the state you are in and hope there is a watch maker close by.
