Doxa Sub 300T Clive Cussler

Post by AtomicTom » Fri May 19, 2023 11:22 am

Have you guys had a chance to see the Doxa Sub 300T Clive Cussler?

The watch honors the maritime explorer, author, National Underwater
and Marine Agency founder, and more with a really cool new SUB 300T.
Which has details like a 42.5mm case, neat bezel, and hand-ground
decorated dial, BOR bracelet, Sellita SW200 automatic and more.

I think the caseback might be the coolest part.

Not on my shopping list. Some interesting concepts, but I wouldn't want Clive's name on the dial.

The “roughed up” look of the case looks kinda cool

Doxa Sub 300T Clive Cussler

Thanks Tom! I would have loved to see, with this weathered case, a 300 no “T” orange dial variant. The caseback
listing recoveries, would be a nice tribute to Clive…without having his name on the dial.

I agree with you, Blaine.

I don’t know if this watch was designed by the Cussler family and I do approve the sentiment of Doxa producing this tribute watch, but I find the design to be the most non-tool like “tool watch” I’ve seen in a while.

The dial is fairly illegible with its beige on beige on beige color scheme, and while I kinda like the “stonewashed” case finish, the use of red for the no-deco scale on the bezel doesn’t contrast well with the grey steel.

I would’ve used a “pro” style orange dial and used the current dial design as a medallion insert into the case back. The “NUMA” shipwreck list could’ve been engraved into a commemorative challenge coin to be included in the watch case.

As an aside, I do hope they are shipping these in a nice box and not the “camera case” thing modern Doxa’s come in. This is a watch that will likely sit in the case on someone’s bookshelf.

Oh man, so sorry Mike and Rob. :( I didn’t realize this one was already
talked about. My apologies to you guys. ..Honestly, saw the watch and
thought it was different for Doxa and thought you guys might get a kick
out of it. It sort of has the look of a watch that was found at the bottom
of the ocean floor, or was found in a shipwreck. I honestly think it
is really cool.

And so is hearing what everyone has to say, so thanks so so much !!!

I find this strangely attractive. I’m not even a big Doxa fan, but it’s out of the ordinary. If I had $2600 laying around I’d be considering it

OK, I stand corrected. Seth is right, it’s cool.

There is a YouTube video with his son (Dirk!) and they show the watch at the end. The caseback has all the names of the shipwrecks he found.

I grabbed screen shots from the video.

A 300t SH white minute hand with vintage case would be super nice.

User “Snulle” did a photoshop of this watch with an orange dial. I think it looks much better than the beige.

I like this with the orange dial. To bad they didn't make this version as well.

While an orange / “Pro” dial would’ve made sense for a number of reasons (primarily the fact that Clive wore a “Pro”, as did his character Dirk), Hop’s screen captures look better than the Doxa marketing photos.

In Hop’s screen caps, the dial almost looks white, so there is better legibility. The marketing photos make the dial color match the faux patina lume.

I guess we’ll just have to wait until folks start posting their watches on the forums to see the true dial color.

Is this yours?

I really like the idea of the embossed dial, but dang if those indices don't get lost in the dial background.

Props to Doxa though for the color matched date wheel. A stock white date wheel would've stuck out like a sore thumb on that dial.
