Godspeed. Have not done the whole trail, but Katahdin is a magical place. Looking forward to seeing you next to this sign later this summer.

It took someone with a brass pair to get up Katahdin in those conditions!
Did you check Todd? Somethings in there.
That wasn’t even the worst day I’ve been up there

Image
Nope, ^^^ that's brutal. I'll take the slopes at Whistler, with lodging, or the Appellation Trail -hands down.
A six-month hike with my wife, I wish

Just left whistler today. It may get snotty up top but there’s always a nice comfortable gondola to take you back down. This is more like camp Muir at Rainer last year.

 lightweight, never. I dig a battle, my wife's only in for fitness, not fun. She's a beach bunny, all chill w/o a chill, I'm happy where she is.
I only know a couple of serious hikers, their grueling tails are good.

I've been watching some of your videos Pete, wow I'm impressed. A lot of the scenery is very much the same as here in the UK.
Good luck with the rest of the mission.

Hello gents!
We've had a little setback on our mission to summit Mt. Katadin and complete our through hike of the AT, so I've been catching up here and elsewhere. Lisa broke her ankle on the trail (distal fibular fracture) so we are home for some R&R. My hip needs a little therapy as well. We hope to be back at it in 4 weeks or so. Fingers crossed. Details on the you tube channel we set up for the hike. youtube.com/@Lisaandpete

We're only about 34 miles south of Amicalola State Park. The waterfall and scenery are beautiful. I've never hiked the trail, but used to stop at the scenic overlook rest area near Blairsville, which the trail bisects, when I frequently travelled to north Georgia for work. The view is incredible.

Best of luck on your journey.

Well, we gave it the good ol'e college try! After a month off for recovery, Lisa and I set out again from where we left off. Unfortunately, she had not recovered enough (ankle fracture) and was in severer pain within a few miles of our start. Truth be told, I might not have made it either since my hip, (which is scheduled for replacement in January), was giving me fits as well. As it stands, with about 350 miles left to complete, we will run out of good weather for this year if we put off our start any longer. Therefore, off to the next adventure with the hope of finishing this thing next summer.

Sounds like you gave a great effort. It’s certainly not easy and there’s always next year. I hope you both recover well over the fall/winter.

Good luck, Pete. Regarding the move to “van life”, this has to be said….

Kind of ironic how “living in a van down by the river” used to be a threat, and now it is an aspiration.

Take the fall & winter to get healthy, then finish the mission when ready.

It's no consolation Pete, but what you Lisa accomplished this year was feat. My money's on a fun finish next year, with a bionic hip. Thank you for sharing the great adventure, be well.
