How Has Financing Affected Your Watch Buying Habits?
How Has Financing Affected Your Watch Buying Habits?
I have noticed that now many authorized dealers will offer financing via affirm. Has this option affected your acquisitions when buying new? I like to get points via credit card purchases but this introduction of alternate financing (some offers are 0% apr for 24 months) has likely been a huge enabler for “just one more this year” type buying.
I’m curious how many of you have taken advantage of financing when buying new, and how is the experience specifically with affirm?

I only buy used and usually sell one to buy one, so I’m not a finance candidate. It is tempting, though

honestly, can't imagine buying a watch on credit (other than my CC that i'd pay off immediately). i don't want debt for luxury items.

PP zero interest 6 months only for me, if it’s an option. Never CC unless it’s another promo deal since you’ll almost always get points/cash back on a card.

Cash on hand purchases only - if we can’t pay for it, we don’t but it. The only loan we’ve had in the last 20 years is our mortgage.

Bought my Sub new. Had the cash. Negotiated a discount. Noticed the interest free 4 year finance and took that on tje discounted price. Why wouldn't I? Better to keep the cash in my account longer than have it in someone else's....
Re: How Has Financing Affected Your Watch Buying Habits?
This too. I'll put it on the card but pay it off immediately for the points.
I have an addictive personality and going into debt on a luxury item would be potentially slippery slope. I'd have platinum day date otherwise.
Re: How Has Financing Affected Your Watch Buying Habits?
mostly the same. we had car loans 17 years ago, but we paid them off early and since then, just the mortgage (and not a lot left on that). no real debt is an amazing feeling.
Re: How Has Financing Affected Your Watch Buying Habits?
I hate having an outstanding balance on any account, it has to be paid off eventually anyway so I usually do it there and then. I've done "pay in 4" payments plan through Paypal for gun items though.
Re: How Has Financing Affected Your Watch Buying Habits?
Interesting feedback so far guys! I also am in the camp of paying off my credit card balance each month. But I have to say that a financing option with no prepayment penalty at 0% interest is appealing for sure.

I think it's a good choice if you're the type to kick the can on a dozen "explorer style" watches you've flipped at a loss, instead of just ripping off the bandage with an actual explorer you were destined to get anyway.
The combined amount i've lost in flipping over all these years is easily in the thousands, and i know some must be in the tens of thousands. In this case it's like paying self inflicted interest and nothing to show for.

I’m like a toddler with cash, so I use a credit card daily from a can of Copenhagen to a lawn mower. I pay it off every month and get a ton of points to apply to a balance. I use it for convenience and can’t remember a time I had a balance carry over to the next month.
Re: How Has Financing Affected Your Watch Buying Habits?
convenience and points. that's what the cards are for. going into long-term debt with cards is a problem. and one that too many people in the US fall into. me included, in my 20s. hard learned lesson.

If I can't pay up front, I don't buy screw getting into debt. Screw paying interest fuck those ass-hole credit shit. Watched people I know like my sister and brother get into so much dept with credit they have to do bankruptcy and ruin your credit when you might need it for like buying a house don't do it.
Re: How Has Financing Affected Your Watch Buying Habits?
I only did it a couple of times using the 6 month PayPal interest free. I bought my gold G-Shock and Spinnaker this way. Not huge money. I wouldn't do it for a watch I didn't already have the money for, just benefit of the money not leaving my account right away.

I don’t finance my watches. But I will buy it with my credit card to get 1-2% cash back and pay it off the same day.

Ditto, cash in the bank or its not happening. Most of my new purchases are sub $1k though, above that price its almost always used.

Haha you know me well!
For all you cash transaction haters, did you know that you can send up to 50k in cash and insure it?; keeps you off the grid and away from the tax man
