A tale of 2 GMT's just because
TL;DR - there is no favorite
While both have a GMT complication and a steel non-rotatable bezel, those 2 things are about the only items these 2 watches have in common
The Grand Seiko, is well, Grand.....sculpted case of titanium, edges, crown guards, big knurly crown, and predominantly brushed case and all brushed bracelet makes this grand seiko the least grand seiko I have owned and I mean that in the most positive way. The only polish is a slight chamfer on the lugs, the hands and the dial markers - just enough and just right in my opinion.
The dial is as you'd expect, it is extraordinary in every way. The spring drive is also glorious. The overall effect is a magnificent watch to look at and wear.
If adjectives like extraordinary, glorious and magnificent are used for the Grand Seiko, I'd contrast the Tudor by saying it has utilitarian slab sided and frankly unimaginative case overall. dial is black, hands are off white which is conservative if nothing else...the movement is still a longterm TBD......nothing out of the ordinary or even daring to see here.
I'm sure people are wondering about the thickness that everyone loves to talk about.....everyone that has as opinion about the thickness should be made to preface or end their statement with "for me" because it's subjective and people that make blanket statements are prophets or quacks....and watch nerds are not prophets. For me, it not even worth talking about it is a non-issue, non-factor, etc, etc.
Lume off the charts and it wears (really) well on my wrist and that counts for something and I have bonded with it more than I thought I would.
Sooooo, like children I don't have a favorite - I enjoy them both for different reasons.

Well written up and two great watches. Though I'd lean more towards the Seiko, because it's stunningly beautiful

Whether a potential GMT buyer would cross-shop these is debatable as they are vastly different in design philosophy and price points.
At the end of the day, your boy ended up with both so what so I know, lol
Thanks for the kind words

Nice watches and write up... can't help to ask but is this the precursor to a for sale thread in the near future

Re: A tale of 2 GMT's just because
I've only ever had one GMT, and that was a Panerai 233, and I got that one because I could hide the GMT hand behind the hour hand when not in use. Which was always, because I never (OK, very rarely) leave my time zone. However, if I were to buy a GMT, it would probably be one of these two. I'm leaning toward the GS, but I'm a big fan of both brands. I do need a spring drive again at some point.

Yowza Mike, I don’t know how on earth I missed this honestly !
An honest to goodness DYNAMIC Duo of a congratulations here !!!
Man, I am not sure things can get better than this either here with
adding two watches like to the stable sir. I love your take on
the two as well with not being able to choose a favorite among them
like that too. Because in reality both are perfection, as well as are
both extraordinary as you said. And have to say Mke,..Extraordinary
is such a terrific word or adjective isn’t it?! ..It’s reserved for the
extra special, exceptional in life. Which these two GMT’s here above,
definitely are.
I couldn’t be happier that you are happy with these beauties Mike.
Each one does their own thing, as well as fits the GMT bill perfectly.
I mean seriously, you might want to wear both every day !!
