What is your Daily Rotation criterial - and why?
What is your Daily Rotation criterial - and why?
Hey all - Im struggling/learning how to appreciate my my collection and build a meaningful rotation, and would like your input.
I have 13 total wearable watches. I found that I'm not happy rotating through all all them all regularly. Some are heirlooms, some are gifts, and some are just cool/interesting/keepers. Of my group, six are what I feel are the watches I enjoy regularly rotating.
What number do you guys regularly rotate through and why? Do you "weekly" some and "weekend" others? Do you just grab-n-go on whatever? Match to clothes/colors daily? My big interest in the daily rotation - not special occasions/trips.
Thanks.

I have a dozen watches and just look in the box and see what fits with my plans that day or evening. There is no set rotation.

Re: What is your Daily Rotation criterial - and why?
As I work away Monday to Friday that's one watch, then the weekend watch will be one of the watches I won't risk wearing to work. Some of my watches have to wait weeks for their turn
Re: What is your Daily Rotation criterial - and why?
I have way too many watches. I rotate six to nine to an easily accessible safe once a month or so.
Re: What is your Daily Rotation criterial - and why?
It depends. Right now, I'm in the Philippines, a 4 month trip, I took 2 watches with me, so it's pretty easy to decide the rotation. However, when I'm home, I just decide what to wear at the beginning of the day, I usually don't do mid-day changes, although I have on occasion. There are some watches that don't get worn much, nd some that are on the wrist more frequently. Just depends on the day and occasion.

6 watch rotation, put on what I'm in the mood for, usually swap out for another at some point during the day.

7 watches.
2 G-shocks for casual wear/around the house.
3 share field duty (office duty on rare occasion).
1 dress watch.
1 casio for gym duty.
No mid day changes for me unless it’s a change for the gym.
Sounds to me like slimming down the collection is your best bet. On the other hand, having multiple pieces and regularly wearing about half that is part of the hobby

I have 12 watches so I usually wear one for a whole week. Therefore, it's almost a couple of months before I get around to the same one again so it keeps me from getting bored with them.

Work from home (4 days home, 1 day in) has limited my motivation to take out a watch, wind it, and set it, just to wear it around the house.
These days I'll wear whatever watch I have out for weeks at a time.

Re: What is your Daily Rotation criterial - and why?
For me, it is mostly a risk based approach to deciding what I am going to wear. The day-to-day rotation involves fairly minimal thought on my part. Pretty much it is: "Am I planning on doing anything stupid today?" yes/no, and "do I have time to set this watch this morning?" yes/no.
If I'm going surfing (7' waves today!), I tend to keep my watch to something relatively inexpensive and easily replaceable.
Some good watches in my collection get neglected just because they are too fiddly to set the time quickly. Examples include my Squale 50 ATMOS and my GMT movement watches. If I wear those, I'm usually committed to wearing them for at least a few days in a row.
The more involved level of thought is when I go on a trip and have to decide which watch I want to wear all week.

Re: What is your Daily Rotation criterial - and why?
I have a hard time with this too which is why I set a goal to keep my collection pretty small, 3 or 4 watches. I have pretty much only been wearing my submariner since I got it about a month ago....I think I am a one watch guy at heart but I am still in the honeymoon phase with it and I know I will eventually enjoy a little variety. The majority of my time is working from home but when I do go into the office and see clients I won't want to wear a rolex, so I think that is where my seamaster comes in. I have the tuna as my quirky fun watch that doubles as a beater and then my g shock as my pure, do everything beater.
Re: What is your Daily Rotation criterial - and why?
it's generally whatever i feel like the night before.
pre covid, when i went to the office every day, picking tomorrow's watch was part of my evening prep (pulling out clothes for work the next day, ironing if needed, picking a new watch and setting/winding). nowadays, i work maybe 2-3 days a month in the office. so my morning routine is to grab a non-wrinkled tshirt and shorts and walk upstairs to my office after i shower. swapping watches happens whenever i think, "it's time for something different." it's not a daily process any more and i usually wear one watch for at least a few days, sometimes weeks.

I don't have a rotation; just go with what I feel like wearing that day.

Re: What is your Daily Rotation criterial - and why?
I have maybe 40-45 watches, a few I never wear.
2 sentimentals and older watches: Omega and Breitling. .
A bunch of micros or non-micro affordables like Seiko and AvI-8 in the $200-$700 range.
A few nice watches in the 1000-2000 range like Doxas, Oak&Oscar and Farer for example Then my core of higher end pieces which include and I usually wear at least once a week:
BLNR. ExpII. Pam 61 and 973(need to sell). Omega NTTD. Tudor FXD and BBPro
I have no rotation plan besides some themes I follow to help like Bluewatchmonday or MicroMonday, TudorTuesday and FliegerFriday…. I also usually one of my dozen Scurfa on Sunday afternoons #scurfasundsy
How I feel in the morning when I open the watch box drives which I chose.

Grab the Apple Watch off the charger and go.
Re: What is your Daily Rotation criterial - and why?
to be fair, if i don't have a non-wrinkled one, it's not like i iron something. i just toss it in the dryer for 5 mins while i make breakfast so it doesn't look like it was in a wad on the floor in my bedroom for the past week.

Re: What is your Daily Rotation criterial - and why?
If I'm going in to office I generally pick something less in-your-face flashy (i.e. no Skydweller).
If I'm working on the car or in the yard, nothing too delicate (i.e. no Reverso)
If I'm fishing, something 100m+ waterproof.
If I'm driving in to Baltimore, G-Shock.
None of the above apply too often, so mostly I pick what I feel like.

This is me more often than I'd care to admit around these parts ; )
Matt how did you get the reverse display/crown orientation, I might like that.

Re: What is your Daily Rotation criterial - and why?
Yup, I'm the same way as so may of the guys here Mike. There's really no criteria, or real
rotation actually. I will just go with the flow, and use the Watch Force.
And I've kind of gotten where I will enjoy a watch for multiple days now too. Whereas a few
years back, I always would change watches every single day. But now I might enjoy a watch
all week long, or weekend long. But at the end of the day, there are no rules I go by.
What a neat question sir, thank YOU !

Re: What is your Daily Rotation criterial - and why?
I keep a small collection (typ 3-4) so its fairly easy. Like others said, I just pick one out during the work week.
On weekends its either my quartz Seiko or a G-Shock.
