I’ve been wanting to try out an explorer 1 on oyster type bracelet, but don’t have 5k to blow …
What’s the best low-priced homage example? There are a lot of options and thought I’d see what you guys have to suggest?
Thanks dudes

Straight up is the Tissell as it has a similar adjustable clasp. Steinhart is better quality. Overall for a similar feel I'd go Christopher Ward C63 Sealander or Traska Summiteer.

Mk II Vantage if you can find one. Or an older Railmaster.

I always come back to the Sinn 556i to scratch the itch. 200m water resistance and highly legible. Also the sweet spot at 38.5mm.

If you can find a preowned Smiths Everest, that would be my choice.

Agree, but I think the 556a is closer.

Here it is:

I agree, the smiths Everest is the closest to an explorer you can get. IMHO

Not a homage, but the IWC Mark XV is a great option.

I'd say the Smith's Everest if you're looking for the one that is most like the Explorer in size and appearance (36mm and 3-6-9 dial). Other choices would be the Tudor Heritage Ranger, but it's 41mm (and a vintage ranger comes in at only 34mm and would cost you more than a 14270 or 114270 - plus there are a ton of fakes and frankens out there).
Still another would be a Rolex Air King with a 3-6-9 dial, but those are kind of pricey now, too.
You could look at the Tudor Black Bay 36mm (or even the 41mm if you want something larger). The Black Bay has a more modern feel like a 14270 or 114270. The Everest is more like a 1016.
And the suggestion of the Seiko Alpinist is a good one, but the size is larger than the traditional Explorer, and it has a date to the extent that matters to you.
I've never been particular enamored with the Sinn 556 - something about the design seems off to me. It may be hands or the size of the markers. Plus it's just too matte looking for my taste (case and dial). But if you like the style it's certainly an option - tough as nails like most Sinns.

While not an homage, a nice alternative to the Explorer is the Tudor Black Bay 26 or 41.

damn - excellent recommendations! A lot to think about.
I've had all those Sinns and really like them, but to be honest I'm not a fan of the H-link bracelet, or to be more specific, i like the oyster more..
I've tried to like the Alpanist but jut can't for some reason?
Black Bay or Ranger are not for me either...
I do like the SARB..
Thanks guys -

If you really want to see if you like the style, I think it's hard to beat the Smith's Everest. The problem is it's impossible to get one at MSRP given Timefactors' weird selling habits. They come up for sale on Recon fairly regularly, but always at more than MSRP (though still affordable), and they always get snatched up quickly.

I've been looking out for the Everest and yes, they are more expensive now.. Look like quality pieces, though
Thanks!

Save your pennies. Whaever cheap watch you get it will be too expensive.
The 36mm explorer or the 39mm explorer are two of the best damn watches ever.
They are both one watch collections to themselves.
But if you have to go for it....try the tudor. 36 or 39. At least you can flip and not lose.
“To absent friends, lost loves, old gods, and the season of mists; and may each and every one of us always give the devil his due.”
― Neil Gaiman, The Sandman
I bought a cheap watch from a crazy man
Floating down canal
It doesn't use numbers or moving hands
It always just says now
Now you may be thinking that I was had
But this watch is never wrong
