So what's changed in your watch-world in 2021?
Well, we're coming to the end of the year. Has anything significantly changed for you watch-wise?
My collection has changed a little, actually slimmed down (see below), but on top of that there were two major changes for me...
1) Certina. I discovered Certina. I love the brand, its history, its value, the brand positioning and partnerships and the rock solid quality of the watches. It's also opened my eyes to a price range (£500-£1000) which I largely ignored before. I thought it was too cheap to be "special" and too expensive for a cheap beater. I was wrong. There are some amazing watches in this price range. I bought 5 Certinas this year. A DS Action Diver for my son's 18th in a few years - that's the watch that got me started.
My 2, pictured below, and a couple of Christmas presents for my son and wife (wrist shots on Christmas Day).
2) Rubber Straps. I always hated them. The strap on my PH500 showed me the light. I now have a few aftermarket ones, including an Everest for my Submariner (which is fantastic).
Decent rubber straps are so comfortable and dry so quickly . I've been missing out.
Generally I've moved away from leather and Nato straps for now, bit I'm sure I'll swing back at some point. Rubber and steel are my preference at the moment.

Holy cow Jason, your Certinas really are spectacular !
Love hearing how the one you got your son for his 18th is the one that
started everything too. That is just great actually. And seeing what
you have done since, is remarkable. You have all the Certinas which makes
up a phenomenal collection all by itself. But then all of the other amazing
masterpieces now as well. It's unbelievably impressive to see !
I honestly cannot thank you enough for taking us on the tour !!!
On this end, not much has changed, except I like more, and more watches
every day. However, what I do is basically what I have always done.
Which is get an insane amount of enjoyment out of just learning about new,
along with old watches every day. Really haven't added new watches into the
mix, but plan on it this Christmas. That's usually what I will do. ..Look, learn,
and have fun all year, and then maybe add a few watches at the end of the
year.

I wish I had you will power, but I'm trying to stick to the "one in one out" rule for now. I have one spaceeft on the boxes and that's being saved for something special when I retire..

This happened!
Its been fun to have something else to do. I still love watches but the intensity of collecting has calmed down.
Very luck to be able to keep all my watches, do t flip any but not buying so many now.
I think I got the Armida 39mm and BR03 full lume.
Trying spread my time in my hobbies a bit more now. I have a new watch box on the go, a watch mod and of course the Mini is huge fun.
Not sure what next year will hold for watches. On the radar is U50, Longines Spirit and the new Glycine SST

Right now I'm trying to avoid one last purchase this year.
Re: So what's changed in your watch-world in 2021?
In the past year I’ve been wearing the same watches, very little rotation. The same watch to work for several months and a second on the weekends that lasts about a month.

Well, 2021 has been eventful concerning my collection. Prior years, I settled in to enjoying a 2 watch rotation consisting of my Submariner and Explorer II, however, I sold a few watches I no longer wore and replaced them with 6 new pieces. So far this year I added, the Omega Seamaster 300m, Speedmaster, and Globemaster, a Tudor BB58 Blue, Sinn U1(again), and a Damasko Ds30. Keeping my fingers crossed, got a call from my Rolex AD notifying me that they are expecting a new shipment before Christmas! Oh well, it's only money!! lol!

Good grief...You guys make me sick and I hope you know I'm kidding. Between threads like this and the daily WRUWs, I have a major inferiority complex.

That trio of Omegas is a well rounded collection in itself!flyskate wrote: ↑Mon Nov 22, 2021 6:14 amWell, 2021 has been eventful concerning my collection. I still love watches, but this is the second year in a row I haven't bought or sold a watch - I'm happy with what I have and have allocated my disposable income to other hobbies. But I have my eye on a couple of things and might pick something up in the near future.

That's not a bad place to be, to be honest..
Re: So what's changed in your watch-world in 2021?
Earlier this year, I bought these two.
Last week, I sold this one, so as far as the watch budget is concerned, my bank account is in positive territory for the year.

No, it's not Tourettes.
Re: So what's changed in your watch-world in 2021?
I had a few changes in the collection. Sold my Chronosport UDT as a project lost some money on that one but getting to old for projects. I am hopping he gets it to working condition. And added some good ones this year maybe one of my better years in a while for vintage wristwatches.
A few cool divers from the swinging 60"s
This cool WW1 era wristlet with shrapnel guard that was photographed in one of my favorite books on US issued timepieces the exact watch from the book.

Haven't bought a watch in two years, or even had a desire to, so still enjoying the ones I have.
Guess my new passion, which also lead to a new job, have made watches less of a priority.

Re: So what's changed in your watch-world in 2021?
Now next year might be different. The last watch I bought this year the Technos skydiver just has the cool factor due to the dial and hands the perfect aged lume that a lot of watch companies are trying to recreate can't stand counterfeit patina lume and the right case size for me. And a cool BOR bracelet were for some reason the clasp not a scratch magnet it's like immune to it the plexi acrylic crystal hard to scratch never had a plexi like that. Been wearing it almost every day. It one watch I think might break me of this habit. And it's one not many notices like a vintage Tudor snowflake that might get ripped off your wrist. But as cool as one. If your happy with one watch with a few beaters for stuff that mite beat it up is what I am thinking. I might start letting some stuff go down the road but it's hard to let stuff go for me. I even tried to talk the guy out of buying my Chronosport UDT.
