Breitling’s Super AVI Collection

Post by AtomicTom » Fri Nov 19, 2021 9:14 pm

Did everybody catch a look at Breitling's Super AVI Collection?

These watches pay tribute to the 1953 Breitling 765 AVI. As
well as planes like the Vought F4U Corsair, Curtiss Warhawk,
Mosquito, and two variants of the P-51 Mustang. All having
specifications like 46mm cases, 100m WR, sapphire crystals,
nice bezels, and dials, Breitling B04, and leather straps also.

Check them out...

I like them, unfortunately 46mm is just too big for my wrist.

This^….like what Breitling is doing but feel like they have too many falling in the 45mm+ range..

I haven't been paying attention Breitling, and with all due respect, when did a Breitling stainless steel chrono become north of 10K ??

file under "a rising tide lifts all ships" I guess

that being said, I do like these

Probably since they went to in-house movements.

The correct answer

This watch is goofy. It reminds me of a Bremont... in a not good way.

Probably since they went to in-house movements.
good point however, Brietling has in-house movements in their watches for less. I don't think in-house automatically grants permission to cross the 10k threshold, I mean hell, my SKX is in-house at 250 bucks.

I know B'ling is a legit brand but it's kinda like my local city community college hiring and paying Nick Saben 10 million a year.

=============

Seems like by going in-house a lot of their watches went north of 8K :raised: -- unlike someone like Tudor....

I haven't looked through the entire Breitling catalog, but it seems like most of their in-house chronograph models are in the $8-$10K range. The movements are all COSC certified column-wheel chronographs. I don't think you'll find too many manufacturers selling watches with similar movements for less.

I wouldn't personally pay over $10K for a Breitling, but the prices don't seem over the top when compared with the rest of the industry.

This is a funny conversation because Tudor sells the exact same movement for $5,225.

You beat me to it. Also, Breitling does horrible on resale (sometimes unfairly, but it is what it is). So if you’re going to spend this much on one, you’d better love it.

I have to admit, I love the theme of these watches, as well as the iconic
planes they are paying tribute to. However, did think that both the sizes,
as well as prices could come down a little, or a lot actually. :)

Just imagine if they had multiple size versions of these, or that the price
were to come down by at least half. ;) I think everyone would like them
even more, or much more.

They are still incredibly cool to see though. ..And it's incredibly cool to
hear what you guys have to say too. Thanks so much for your thoughts
on these everyone !

This.

Exactly why a flipper like me will never buy a Breitling new. Even if I love it, it’ll get flipped at a yuge loss.
