Is it advisable to grease the bezel?
Gents, after diving trips do you think is advisable to oil the bezel for smooth action?

I didn’t watch the video, but considering I’d always work in dirty, dusty environments I would remove the bezel, clean everything, and lightly oil the gasket with oil out of my gun cleaning kit. I’ve removed and replaced click springs before and that’s helped bezel action. Even broke one once.

While I have no personal experience, it would surely be less uncomfortable.kempoman wrote:Gents, after diving trips do you think is advisable to oil the bezel for smooth action?

I’d say if you have to grease a bezel it is probably dirty and needs cleaned.
So greasing it is sort of covering up the real problem.

So you come home from your dive trip and say to the wife I need to go grease my bezel
Re: Is it advisable to grease the bezel?
I just rinse the watch really well after wearing it in salt water (or pool water to rinse off the chlorine). I’ll spin the bezel while rinsing it to clear any grit from underneath the bezel.
I’ve lubed bezels before, but I don’t do it as a matter of practice. I always use silicone oil or grease so I don’t damage the gaskets.

Hmmm, i notice the prolonged period under seawater might worn out some of the oil. I guess by oiling it will prolong the longevity of both rubber seal and click spring when it's not hard to turn. Well, i will try on my beater citizen/seiko first. Thanks for the advises.

Lol... no. Don't do what the guy in the video is doing. Mineral oil is not for watches.
Rinsing with water is the least invasive course of action with the lowest risk. Mildly warm water with dish soap and can also help.
Apply silicone grease to dried up gaskets if the gaskets are still pliable, if not then replace the gasket.

After diving my watch goes into a bucket to soak, same as the dive lights

wait, you guys actually wear your dive watches in water and just not to the office and then removed so you don't scuff the bracelet clasp while using the computer mouse?

Warm water after a dive is all I do. I would never grease something that is open to grit, you are just creating a grinding paste.
