Seiko Dive Watch Tested to Destruction
Re: Seiko Dive Watch Tested to Destruction
Cool, thanks for sharing! Shows how conservative that 200m rating is.
Re: Seiko Dive Watch Tested to Destruction
I can’t get enough of videos like this Myles.
There should be an entire watch channel on TV, or that
is streaming that shows videos like this all day long if
you ask me,
Fantastic sir, thanks very very much !!!

Re: Seiko Dive Watch Tested to Destruction
Nice. So a Seiko 200m diver is ok to 800m and I saw previous footage of a 1000m Tuna going to 3000m without a problem.
Probably fair to say Seiko depth ratings are conservative!

Absolutely conservative!
I’m guessing the reason for the conservative rating has more to do with the cost of testing equipment (and the time required to conduct the test) than watch construction costs.

Re: Seiko Dive Watch Tested to Destruction
I’d imagine there would be some leakage at some point before failure, especially since Seiko does the single gasket crown.
Didn’t Andrea do a Seiko test some years back?
I had a Tag 2000 I used when I did my PADI class and some other dives back in 1998. It had never been opened, but leaked and required all new insides. Deepest I did that trip was 105 feet.

I think Pat did a test with a BASM and a BBQ.

No reason to think the crown seal failed. I've taken a Tuna and Turtle to over 100m without a problem.hoppyjr wrote: ↑Wed Sep 01, 2021 7:13 amI’d imagine there would be some leakage at some point before failure, especially since Seiko does the single gasket crown.

...But did they smash it with a hydraulic press?
