There can be only one
So I am considering buying a retro cool car (90s) and I recently reacquired a Blancpain Barakuda. While it was gone, I had purchased the Blancpain Hodinkee Milspec and have really enjoyed it. However, the Barakuda to me seems a bit more special. If you could keep only one to help fund a car purchase,
which would it be?

No, not for me but thank you. I know they aren’t Steinhart but they are both pretty good watches.r.palace wrote:Is ‘neither’ an option?

Id keep the no date Pokémon version. Maybe because I’m anti-Dink in general.

Hodinkee is the no date.

Hate to say it, but the Pokeball version appeals to me more. Both are pretty great, and IIRC, both are fetching a pretty penny?

They are. The Pokémon version are more rare based on production but seem to be more flipped. Not many of the Barakudas for sale but more were produced. Both are selling above original asking.matt.wu wrote:Hate to say it, but the Pokeball version appeals to me more. Both are pretty great, and IIRC, both are fetching a pretty penny?

Based on the price those are both selling for, I’d personally flip both and pick up a standard BPFF, but I like the 45mm size (I think it wears small for a 45).

Hard to choose between the pokemon watch or the piss lume one, I guess.goaliechris wrote:No, not for me but thank you. I know they aren’t Steinhart but they are both pretty good watches.r.palace wrote:Is ‘neither’ an option?

That’s an interesting angle…matt.wu wrote:Based on the price those are both selling for, I’d personally flip both and pick up a standard BPFF, but I like the 45mm size (I think it wears small for a 45).

Right. Again, thank you for the helpful opinion.r.palace wrote:Hard to choose between the pokemon watch or the piss lume one, I guess.goaliechris wrote:No, not for me but thank you. I know they aren’t Steinhart but they are both pretty good watches.r.palace wrote:Is ‘neither’ an option?

I like this idea. The std FF out the Ti version would be my choice.goaliechris wrote:That’s an interesting angle…matt.wu wrote:Based on the price those are both selling for, I’d personally flip both and pick up a standard BPFF, but I like the 45mm size (I think it wears small for a 45).

Of these, I too surprisingly prefer the Hodinkee. I agree with Matt, I’d sell both, get a car and a BPFF titanium

Matt's suggestion is definitely interesting. But if you decide to keep one of the watches you already have, I'd vote for the Barakuda. One of the few vintage-inspired reissues that actually improves upon the original, IMHO.

They made a black dial and a blue dial Ti, right? Including that special Ocean version I think.

Both amazing. I'd keep the Pokemon.

Number two. Definitely.

I prefer the second, but this is a question that really you can only answer. Which would you rather wear?
There can be only one
Both are terrific. Aside from the cases, which differ in design only, both seem to be limited offerings; the one that is really a near 1:1 offering is the Milspec…down to the working moisture discs (hopefully that never turns pink). That is also a plus for a conversation piece. No other watch has this on a dial. The 40mm case is really ideal (certainly manageable for all wrist versus larger cases) and a couple mm larger than original. No date as well is keeping with the original. Both appear to have gone up in value. I don’t think you can go wrong with holding onto one or the other. Just what you would wear more and enjoy. Good luck with your car search. Best Blaine

Thanks all! I may be in fact selling both. Will list here if I do.
Btw, the car in question was just agreed to last night. Cannot wait to correct my mistake in 2002 of selling this car and I found a really good example. It’s this:
2000 Acura Integra Type R

Nice! I remember sitting in one of those at a car show back in the day. Hard to believe it was over 21 years ago.goaliechris wrote: ↑Sat Jul 31, 2021 8:28 amThanks all! I may be in fact selling both. Will list here if I do.

108 horsepower per liter of displacement is impressive even by today's standards. Gotta love Honda.

Awesome choice. I’d go yellow for sure, but sometimes you get what you can get.goaliechris wrote: ↑Sat Jul 31, 2021 8:28 amThanks all! I may be in fact selling both. Will list here if I do.

If you keep a watch, I’d keep the Pokémon.
