Do they think we just fell off the turnip truck?

Post by Steve O. » Wed Jul 28, 2021 7:48 am

I've been casually looking for a Longines Legend diver. I found one on WUS that the owner listed as "Watch is in good shape, not marked up but I did wear it occasionally." However the pics tell a much different story. The watch looks as if it landed on the beach in Normandy, fought its way inland, and was run over by a tank. His reply was that it was a used watch and that I should expect a few marks.. Maybe, but Good Lord! Wish I could post the pics.

The watch isn’t marked up, but you should expect a few marks. LOL the seller must be a presidential media spokesman!

Did he write a 3 paragraph response with no actual answer or meaning? Defiantly a politician.

Honestly if’s not that bad looking, especially for a 7 year old watch.
It’s a polished case, he’s hitting it with a lot of light to get the angle to show the marks and some of what you see is dust and lint.

Some of you would be surprised to take your polished watches and hit it with harsh light and take a pic with a good camera.
I was expecting way worse by your description.

A little wipe down and a buff with a small polishing cloth it should look pretty good.

I am not affiliated with the seller at all, I just went to look it up.

Hard to say from the pics. Don is right about the harsh lighting. Maybe a good cleaning and light polishing cloth before the guy posts the pics might alleviate the questions. You can see he didn't clean it at all. Shmegma and oils. :puke: Caseback pic shows that. But......you never know.

Serious? Looks like hell to me in any light. That shit is not going to polish out. It not so much that the watch is scratched up, it's his statement of "Watch is in good shape, not marked up". that gets me. I sure as hell wouldn't pay $1,200. for that.

The lighting is probably emphasizing the blemishes on the case, but it certainly doesn't look unmarked

What's the typical discount on Longines these days? Since you don't seem to be fixated on the no-date model, you might be able to find a good deal on a new date model. With an MSRP of $2300, if you were able to get a 25% discount (Topper maybe?) you'd be at $1700 for a brand new watch. Not sure if that blows your budget, but the price isn't that far off the asking price for what appears to be a bit of a beater - or the other one I see for sale on Watchrecon for $1580.

i can see some of it might not be as bad as it may seen since it's blown up and in harsh light. but the sides of the lugs in that first and third photo look pretty beat to hell. i'm not that gentle on my watches and i was just looking at my PO magnified in my phone w/the light on and i can't find an angle that looks anywhere near that bad.

those left lugs are chewed to crap... no polishing cloth is buffing that out

My thoughts; Ask for pics be taken with less harsh lighting. Polished surfaces in harsh lighting magnify minor hairlines and not deep scratches. It appears worse than what they actually are (I think I may be preaching to the choir) Even putting your hand in you pocket with polished surfaces under harsh lighting will look like this. JMHOP .

Sorry but that's more than "a few marks"...what's the asking price? Is the crystal clean?

"Watch is in good shape, not marked up but I did wear it occasionally."

...... Uuuummm, no. That is not a correct description of the watch in my world. Those edges of the lugs show significant gouges and nicks no matter what the lighting is.

"I did wear it occasionally" ....... while working in a concrete block factory.

Dude wasn’t conscious enough to clean that cheese off the caseback for pictures AND his description of the condition is not truthful IMO - who knows what other box of surprises this piece has.

Big pass.

How do you manage to put scratches *between* the crowns anyway?

Just picked up a watch from WUS a couple weeks ago that was listed in "excellent" condition that came all marked up and on some third-party rubber thing that had so. much. cheese. on it that I just threw the strap in the garbage. I'll never not be shocked at what passes as "good" or "clean" condition in the eyes of much of that forum.
