I’d like to see this one compared to the Blackwater, which is closer in size to this one.

Ok those pics are exactly what I was looking for- and HJ I’m not a WUSsy so I’d never find it.

By the pics the new Benrus is def blackwater sized.

I’m about to send mine to ed for a comparison.

Hold onto it.
You may prefer the paradong.

I love my blackwater but there is something about the paradong with the more substantial case size.

I always think that the paradong is slightly less comfortable than the blackwater but feels like a better watch on the wrist.

That profile cinches it. The wow-yao is only an approximate to the original Benrus. The Benrus wins on bezel, case thickness and of course the lovely back etching. My opinion, YMMV.

There is a market for both (and Todd’s too), it all depends on if you’re willing to pay the price.

The original Paradive was (IMO) substantially better than the later/current Paradive.

The Benrus is as close to the original as one can get, with improvements.

I have both and the Paradong is definitely bigger and heavier. Type I is staying.

So, they are like Seiko monocoque case? ETA 2824 movements for the original?

I think this is a very true statement.

Todd came out with his Hemlig idea well before Benrus announced their reissue, and certainly the MKII and the Dagaz Cav offerings predated everyone so the “homage” arguments don’t really apply.

I’m willing to wear the $395 Hemlig in situations where I’d hesitate to wear a nearly $2k watch, really no different than I wear my SPB053 in situations where I won’t wear my SLA017. There is a place for both in my watch box as one is a “collector’s” watch, and one is a daily wearer that is just a good dive watch.

It doesn’t make one “better” in my opinion. It is really more of a case of “horses for courses”. If I were really focused on “correctness” and “lineage” to the original design, the Benrus is the only option.

Been reading about recent delivery of these Hodinkee seems not to pack them to well for shipping so they probably bounce around in the box when being shipped.some even got scratched bezel rings read thread at MWR forum. Never use a middle man to sell you stuff.

Looks like a couple posters in that thread purchased, only to be a little disappointed by flaws and lazy packaging of their shipments.

If they’re on MWR I’m guessing the posts also included comments about how much better the original was.
