Interesting. I would assume this is a good thing. Their NYC locations have never been overly pleasant experiences for me.

I’m assuming they’ll change the name. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad. Tourneau has negative brand recognition in the US right now, but Bucherer has zero name recognition.

Tourneau charges full price plus tax. Never understood how anyone could buy from them. I doubt this change will mean much.

At least in NYC, I feel that majority of people that buy from T are tourists. I literally see hoards of them buying watches by the bag full whenever I go in any of their locations. I'm wondering if seeing a familiar name would be a positive for the Europeans, while also making it seem more "interesting" (and less connotation of full-price crappy service) for the locals.

Maybe the Bucherer edition Black Bay will show up in the US now! It's not a LE and is one of the best looking versions I've seen.
EDIT: Actually it was the Harrod's edition that had the green bezel and green writing, with the bronze case that was the best one I saw. The Bucherer was the blue dial/bezel with bronze case. Nice but not as nice as the Harrod's version IMHO.

Wempe is night and day compared to Tourneau IMO. They seem to actually care about watches and not immediately size you up the second you walk in.

I worked at the Tourneau here in Atlanta for a short period of time ten years ago. It was a snake pit. None of the staff cared about watches or providing genuine customer service. It was all about getting the commission no matter who you had to run over. I never could understand how they've managed to stay in business for over a hundred years.

This reminds me of a friend of mine who was an avid cyclist. He loved cycling so much, he decided to open his own bike shop and became miserable. Once, while visiting him at the shop, he told me "Chris, if you love mountain biking, my advice to you is open a ski shop."
It's tough to mix a passion on a topic with sales. They are two very different animals. My guess is, those guys who were good watch sales people would be just as good at selling cars.

Certainly in order to be good at selling something you don't have to be an enthusiast. What I meant to convey is, with the exception of a few, most of the sales staff didn't know the difference between a chronometer and a chronograph.

Last time I set foot in their stores was 2009, I think. I consider them a tourist and out-of-towner destination.
I don't know what the new ownership will do. Perhaps, if they held some interesting event...I would go.

Hopefully that idiot Mike Sandler gets fired now since Tourneau and Timezone are connected
