2017- WRUR: Reading?
Didn't feel like searching to see if a thread existed, and I'm sure that I'm not alone in my love for reading. Too much time is spent on this f*^#ing infernal iPhone that never seems too far from my grasp or glance. Anyway, I love reading, and wanted to see what is being read across the forum, as I tend to read the same books again and again.
Currently reading the "Longmire" series; thanks Hot, GILF'y MIL for knowing me so well LOL.

"Hunting Che: How a U.S. Special Forces Team Helped Capture the World's Most Famous Revolutionary"
Great read. Nice companion read to "Hard Measures: How Aggressive CIA Actions After 9/11 Saved American Lives" former CTC Chief Jose A. Rodriguez, Jr Biography. A legend in the Intelligence Community. Rodriguez tracked Che down, interrogated him and was present when Che was executed. Mr Rodriguez also owns Che's iconic original Rolex GMT. A fact not mentioned in either book.

Currently got Faust on the go. Really enjoying it, was not sure I would but it's great.
After that I may dive in to this. Want to catch up on my Cold War history being a child of the 80's I'm West Germany as it was then. (Will see how I get on with my German)

I read shadow divers based on Jason Heaton's recommendation. Great story.
I've also gone back to a few classics.
And I'm currently reading John Adams.

I'll second this, it's a great book. As are some of the other northeast wreck diving books, particularly Deep Descent by Kevin McMurray.sfglenrock wrote:I read shadow divers based on Jason Heaton's recommendation. Great story.
Personally, I read a ton of non-fiction, including lots of mountaineering stuff. The stories of some of the older expeditions are truly amazing for what people were able to accomplish.

Yep, and that K2 expedition is legendary in its controversy.Seppia wrote:Did they translate to English the Walter Bonatti books?
He's one of the legend of alpinism, the best known probably together with Messner (the first to conquer all 8k meters).
Bonatti is a legend

I use read a ton, but it has been a few years since I read anything good. Once I get done with school I hope to have time to read again. I am a huge fiction reader though.

You are correct regarding Bonatti's version being the accepted account now.Seppia wrote:The CAI recently admitted that Bonatti's version was the truth if I'm not mistaken.
Took them some time but well.
His reportages for the Italian weekly magazine Epoca are also amazing.
He basically became an adventurer and toured the world.
I am also going to go on a full-gay tangent and say he has my ideal of a perfect male body.
I laugh at the overinflated gym meatheads that always forget to do legs.
This is what a man should look like.
Also, that's pretty But also correct. Climbers are typically complete freaks of nature in regards to physical capability versus body type.

Finished proofing the manuscript for a friend's first novel; the concept was pretty damn good, and I really enjoyed it. I'll let you guys know which way he goes with publishing after the re-write.
