WTH Tactico? SBDX012 "homage"

So I'm usually a fan of Crepas/Tactico and their homages to dive watches of the past but this blatant copy of the SBDX012 makes me put them in the same group as other micros that copy a current production piece design and sell it off as something else.

^ I can think of another company that "revised" the design...Seiko

Change the hour markers and we've got something completely different!

Maybe I'll never "get" the whole homage thing

Homages are not for everyone but the micro watch industry has shown that there are thousands of collectors out there that are very interested in them.

If they fix the height and bracelet lug width I might be interested.
Tactico and crepas are both homage companies, albeit higher quality then most.

I don't find this particular offering anymore of a blatant copy than any of Crepas offerings from the past. They're in the homage business.

No big surprise here

They've made homages of pieces that weren't modern or in production. This is not that.

The word HOMAGE, as a verb, means to give honor or respect. WIS should call a spade a spade - they make copies. Steinhart - copies. Helson - copies. Bill Yao - copies. Ocean 7 - copies. Tactico - copies.

Why even change the hands and markers? Make it identical...

Why give these guys a pass? Its a fucking copy.

I think by changing the name and calling it a homage it allows people to feel better about wearing a replica.

Oh well, and they could have stayed with round markers instead of square.

This one looks much worse than the Seiko it copies.

Was thinking the same thing. While I love my SBDX001 and would consider the SBDX012 (even though gold accents aren't my thing), this isn't even a blip on my radar regardless of my feelings toward "homage" / tribute designs.

Agreed. I personally don't like it and wouldn't buy one.

But nothing new here, this has been happening in the micro world for long and there is a market for it obviously.
That said I also agree with the definition of homage and this isn't one to me.
It does give folks who can't afford the real one to own a similar watch I guess.

But will it have MEMS?!?

Seriously, there is so much of this going on, it's hard to get excited about it. People vote with their dollars as long as there are enough people who buy these, they'll keep being made.

if they were going to copy it they should have copied it completely, their changes don't look that good imo.

.
Funny thing about MEMS;

I was looking at the SBDX001 vs SBDX017 last night, trying to decide between which I want. I don't care for the new crown or the diashield, plus I prefer the older creamy markers to the newer greenish ones. I came across a posting by Cesar from 2012, with movement pics. Apparently the later SBDX001's already have the 8L35B movement with MEMS parts. I'm preparing to order a 001 shortly.

As for this copy; no way.

First time seeing these actually. ..The thing about homages is they're usually
less expensive, but I wonder how much less expensive these will actually be for
people. Interesting stuff sir. Thanks a lot for the news.

At least they were smart and didn't put ClubOkieS on the dial. Although Anko isn't much better.

Since a legit MM300 can be had around $1k-1200, this would need to be $500-600 to make it a remotely viable choice (but still not for me).

I'd say less.... like $300.

Plenty of great Seikos in the $300-$600 range that are all original designs. I'd go that route before buying that homage.

Thing is, we're not the market for these pieces. At least the majority of us aren't. They know they'll sell these like hot cakes to their faithful Spanish forum friends.

Can't knock the hustle but didn't expect a copy of a watch that was modernized and re released by Seiko not even a year ago

If they are serious about reproducing the Seiko like case with the brushed / polished contrasting surfaces, it won't be cheap. Far more difficult than your typical sub case.
