Aquaracer vs. Seamaster Pro
I'm looking for a diver that I can wear when the Ploprof is overkill or not appropriate (business, jogging, etc.). I had settled on trying to find a 2254 Seamaster Pro. They seem to run about $1300 used. Then I saw a $600 Aquaracer auto, the old style with the wide black bezel. Guy is selling it on rubber with the bracelet also. Good deal. I am wondering if I go for the Aquaracer, and save over half on a Seamaster, will I regret not holding out for a SMP? The WIS in me says get the Omega but the newly poor Ploprof owner says to go for the cheaper TAG since it will be more of a (I hate to say this) beater.
Thoughts? Paul, I know you like the TAG...

Re: Aquaracer vs. Seamaster Pro
Even if you save the money, will you be settling? if so, then you really haven't achieved anything.. Both good watches but if you really want the 2254 then getting the Tag will
only be a quick fix so to speak..
Good luck

I've found in this hobby that you wind up spending more money in the long-term by trying to save money in the short-term. Don't settle, Jason; get the 2254 (which is the perfect watch for your specific needs, IMO).

Adam

Re: Aquaracer vs. Seamaster Pro
Found a 2254 SMP for a good price. The guy had it beadblasted but I can live with that. I'll probably have it on a strap mostly anyway. Now to find a rubber strap....

Re: Aquaracer vs. Seamaster Pro
You can find imitation Omega straps on eBay for pretty cheap. Something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Strap-FitOmega-Seam ... 19af0b0f42suddha wrote:Found a 2254 SMP for a good price. Re: Aquaracer vs. Seamaster Pro
Sounds like you got the problem solved, Jason, and I gotta agree with the fold here - Omega, baby!
Now, onto the strap. If you're getting the one that is beadblasted, why not grab the Sinn rubber strap with that awesome deployant? I don't know if it will fit so maybe someone can chime in on that one. My guess is yes. Plus the clasp will work with the finish on the SMP. I can now swear by that Sinn rubber since throwing it on my jsar.
you'll spend a little more, but it's worth every penny.

You give respect, you'll get respect - you just don't know your place.
Re: Aquaracer vs. Seamaster Pro
Not that you'd ever hold onto a watch for that long,
but I'm convinced the 2254.50 will be a stone classic someday. Don't settle.

Throw the 2254 on a nice leather Nato.

Any good sources for those, Steven? I've long admired the leather NATOs I've seen posted but never know the best place to go for them.SCM64 wrote:Throw the 2254 on a nice leather Nato.

That was quick!
I saw that 2254 and I was going to ping you, but I thought that you wouldn't be into the beadblasting. Shows how much I know. So, when does it arrive?

Re: That was quick!
Today!! Photos to come. Yeah, the beadblasting wasn't of interest at first but hey, I've never had a BB watch (does a Sinn count?) so thought I'd try it. As a do-anything watch, it should hold up well too. Now to find some good straps for it.craniotes wrote:I saw that 2254 and I was going to ping you, but I thought that you wouldn't be into the beadblasting. Shows how much I know.
