New leather for the AD Tac....

Post by GGD » Fri Apr 30, 2010 8:53 pm

G'day guys -

so I've had a couple of custom straps in the works for awhile now.... wasn't exactly sure how they'd turn out (I'm more of a zulu strap nut) but wanted something to dress the beast up a bit & make it look a bit more casual on occasion ;)

This one was just a fluke that I saw on the WUS SC..... it's a Steveo strap (my second one from him) and he does great work!!! I can't recommend him highly enough... he's doing some really interesting straps that are a bit different from the rest & made of some beautiful leather

Image

The blue stitching matches the seconds hand almost perfectly and the two gun metal grey steel keepers add to the tool look as well. The leather is super soft and the whole thing looks great IMO..... I've never had a black leather strap before and I wasn't sure how I'd like it but I'm very happy with the result.

Coincidentally this one from Zack at Red 12 Straps arrived a day later..... Zack does amazing work and his communication / customer service is excellent

This was a custom made strap that was originally an old baseball glove! The leather is super soft and Zack even made me three keepers (1 x large and 2 x small)... I'm wearing it on the large one at the moment and the fit is just perfect.

I always seem to have issues with rubber / leather straps where it's either too loose or too tight but this one is spot-on.

Image

I've always loved the look of the light strap with black edges on a PVD watch.... there's just something about it!

Again - a big thumbs-up for Zack and Red 12 straps

I went a bit nuts and also have another custom strap inbound from maddog straps but it'll have to be pretty bloody good to fight for some wrist time with these two

I'll take some better pics later but couldn't wait to show you my two latest additions...... I love how versatile this watch is, you get a new strap and it's like a whole new watch!

I think you're right Dave!

The poor black N blue one only had two days of love before the baseball glove rocked-up & was instantly given the No. 1 spot

GGD - they look great! Really like them both, for different reasons. I have a 24mm baseball glove strap that also says RAWLINGS on it and it reminds me of my days as a wee one playing baseball, and of my obsession from April to October

I agree....a PVD watch looks awesome with a light leather strap

Cheers Liz - that Ostrich strap looks great on the semi-tac SEAL

But then again, that semi-tac SEAL is just ridiculously cool full-stop so it would probably look good tied on your wrist with a plastic shopping bag

Cheers mate!

The first keeper is fixed, it's stitched to the underside of the strap. The second one is a floater, but he's glued a piece of black leather around the underside of it to give it some added thickness & so that it tightens up on the underside of the strap and doesn't move around. Seems to work pretty well so far.

Those are some sharp looking straps Don  . I like the way the blue stitching matches the second hand. I did the same thing with one of my Eco Drives, picked up a zulu with the red stripe which matches the second hand and lettering.

I've got a lot of old gloves laying around. I might just have to get one of those baseball straps made for the Heuer. It's really the only thing I have left that is suitable for those big thick leather straps.

Love that Rawlings strap Don. :headbang:
Really like the idea of the baseball straps, create a little bit of a talking point beyond just the watch head. And as a HUGE baseball fan (ever since I fell in love with tee-ball as a seven year old in Sydney) I guess you could opt for a certain player's sig (partially) on the strap. I'm thinking looks like you've got part of "The Big Unit's" facsimile signature there, Randy Johnson.

Thanks mate! You're 100% on the money, it is a Randy Johnson signature glove

Zack had one on the SC at WUS which was a Ryan Nolan strap but it had an "off centre" buckle hole set-up which would have limited my options for changing buckles so he suggested the Randy Johnson glove. He pretty much picked the best parts out of the glove and created something really unique

I like Dave's idea of using one of his old gloves.... a cool way to give new life to something that might otherwise be thrown in a box and forgotten about.
