i want a ted su strap to go with my 22mm lugged watch but can only buy the 24mm which is notched to 22mm.

does anyone know if this looks ok or is it more prone to wear/fraying etc.?
ive only seen one image which is of a uts 3000m which a member owned but i cant find it anymore or i would ask them direct.

thanks in advance,craig

I have a few. One of them did start to fray due to a tight fit on the lugs, but I trimmed it back with a razor blade and it is fine.

It all depends whether you mind the notch. Some people hate it, for me it depends on the watch it goes on and the length of the lugs.

I will try and find a few pictures in the next day or so.

I've seen the notched Ted Su's on Dr. Jay's 3000M and Bartlett's 3000M (both with ceramic-coated seatbelt buckles), and it looks just fine to these critical eyes.

Adam

I think all notched straps look terrible.

I think it works in general, but depends on the watch.

and the maratec elite straps are similar, cheaper and come 22mm without notching.

thanks for that barry,it wont be on a daily wearer so im guessing it should be ok and if adam reckons its fine then i should be on to a winner.then again i could always buy a 24mm and stick it on the AEgir when it comes and see what that wears like first.

cheers,craig

I think the 24mm Ted Su will look great on the Ægir (I'm looking forward to swapping the one I have on my PAM 243 off when the CD-2 LE arrives), though I'm thinking that when it isn't on the Metta that it'll be riding on a black Maratac NATO for the most part. We'll see...

Anyway, I don't have a huge problem with notched straps, though as has already been pointed out, it does depend on the watch.

Regards,
Adam

PS - I'm glad you found your way over here, Craig.

definitely feels more relaxed here so the welcome just confirms it,thanks.

i like the maratac elite, its just the seatbelt buckle on the ted su does it for me but the cost is a massive bonus in favour of maratac.
i'll see how i feel when the 24mm arrives.

cheers everyone!

It's always nice to see new faces 'round these parts, particularly when they come packing a 3000M and are throwing down for one of Todd's Ægirs.

Of course, you do realize that you're going to have to properly introduce yourself in the Main Forum, right? Pics of the current collection are a prerequisite... :tap:

Don't listen to the guy with the mohawk. The notch looks like it was done by a third grader with safety scissors.

If the notching is flawless and customized to the watch without overhangs or underhangs, then it should be fine.

Here is a picture of mine with the strap notched to 22mm.

Image

There is no fraying at the ends. Besides when you buy the strap and buckle for $120. it is the buckle that makes up the lion share of the money. You could always pick up another in the future for approx. $20.

This one was made to order, so it is one of a kind.

Before I start my chime in, remember, this is the 11th Man on the Drill team so if you take my advise you're on your own, ... :salute:

OK, now that we got that out of the way, ....

Here it is notched to 22mm (I notched the black stitched strap myself);

And at 24mm;

One thing, I would ask Ted if he'll make the strap in the older softer material. The stiffer material is too stiff IMO. He sent two pairs and found that I couldn't wear it, since it wouldn't bend around the wrist.

Here's a side shot with a Maratac Elite (top). Main difference IMO is the Su is thicker, as well as the Su doesn't have the elastic (?) feel to it. In addition if you notice Ted's has a support tube in the hole and the Maratac doesn't.

One last thing, if the strap gets soaked, it stays soaked for a long, long time!

Here's a Ted Su 24 notched to 22 on my Sinn U1. I think it's a pretty nice setup...

Welcome Craig! I’ve been waiting all summer for it to cool down here in AZ so I could wear my Su. IMO you can’t go wrong with this strap and buckle system. I also ordered and have on hand a strap with holes in it so I can wear it with a tang buckle as well. As mentioned, (it’s been awhile since ordering extra straps) but $20.00 bucks IMO is very reasonable to order extra replacement straps.

The buckle is secured to the strap with a screw bar.

Good Luck!
