Memorial Day...any former military here?
For too many Americans, Memorial Day (also referred to as Decoration Day) means a day off from work with picnics, pool openings and barbecues. But for those who have lost a comrade or loved one in combat, the day takes on a whole different significance. The observance of Memorial Day in the United States in commemoration of those members of the armed forces killed in war.
For those of us that have served in the military (I am retired, with 16 years of service), it represents comrades and like minded individuals who paid the ultimate price for our country. These men and women are true patriots and I hope that you all take the time to think of them this weekend and thank them for all that they have done to make all of these picnics and pool parties possible.
Have a great weekend!!

One tour with the USAF ('81-'85) but drinking in German bars was too dangerous...so I got out and decided I should run into burning buildings, when that seemed risky, I decided to become a cop.
Now that the AF has computers & email, I think it's safe...maybe I'll go back.

I went through USAF Basic Training in 1984. One of my TIs was a Tech Sgt whose first enlistment was in the Marine Corps, toward the end of our involvement in Vietnam. He said that one enlistment in the Corps was enough for him, so he joined the Air Force. I believe he had things arranged so that he left the Corps on one day and was in the Air Force the next day. Nice guy...for a TI.hazmatman wrote:Now that's a career combo you don't see very often...Air Force & the Corps.davidwhitford wrote:Major Dave Whitford USAF/USMC (Ret)

I got out in 1988.

I got out in 1988.

Greetings, spent 4 years 3 months and 9 days as a Marine - remember everyday of it! Then I enlisted in the AF and spent a total of 11 years as an enlisted service member. The AF sent me to school to lie about the weather and gained a commision. Exited a major after 25 years and retired in 1986. Do not regret any of it! Flew into over 100 typhoons, caught falling stars, and forecasted what mother nature dictated. Just got back from HG/AF in Texas where as a member of the AF Retiree Council they recalled me to active duty at the age of 68 to help military retirees. This was my last year on the council (term limits of four years), another good experience where I received the "AWARD OF EXCELLENCE"! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! Dave@Guam

This isn't Veterans Day.
It's Memorial Day. I personally wish all the family's of fallen soldiers in todays conflicts the best; and the knowledge their loved one died in the persuit of a greater good. Liberity and freedom... I miss about 10 excellent soldiers and marines who have been killed in the line of duty.
In memorium: God bless you boys, and thank you.
