Are Seiko Monster hands getting out of hand ?

Post by noah » Sun May 16, 2010 2:42 pm

I never liked the Seiko monster hands at least not both together
they are found originally on the:
SKX779 "Black Monster"
SKX781 "ORANGE MONSTER"

folks first started to see them all over the Seiko 5 sports divers, know as Mini Monsters with the Non-Screw down crownand they now have been seen on some Orient watches now owned by Seiko like this popular now sold Orient 300m Poseidon Brazil Model

and these new starfish divers which I feel I could mod the hell out of I like these ones ....

I wonder is Seiko is trying to push these hand sets as their standard hand set like the SKX's have been for the last 30yrs ?

Seiko has really been dropping the ball as of late with some of their designs. I like the Monster hands....on the Monster. I think they look out of place on most other watches. The Star Monster is kind of funky...maybe in a good way?...I don't really know. But isn't that the Monster's mantra: "This watch is so ugly! I don't know why I like it. It's my favorite watch. /join Monster club/"

I definitely prefer the hands on my 009 to my 779. Trevor could very well have hit it on the head. Companies may see a trend starting and they try to jump ahead and anticipate a huge buying binge. Then it slows down faster than they figured it would so they have way more hands than they need. Wouldn't be the first time a company did that. Or maybe people want to use those hands for mods  .

I personally like the mosnter's hands, but only in the monster. when i start seeing them show up all over the place, on watches at every price point (the same is true of the 40th anniversary diver hands btw), I just start feeling like seiko is running out of ideas.

That said, I did use them on a mod once.
