I changed my oil in the car over the weekend wearing a watch.

Non-divers as compared to what, non-flyers? Pilot & Dive watches are the quintessential tool watches IMO.
I've said this many times, I dive with watches rated to 200 or 300m. But for serious desk diving you need 500 or 1000m minimum and that shit better come with an He valve!
I don't pay attention to aviation watches, is there a following for them like there for divers? What sort of "gotta have" features do they insist on?
On the first post I forgot to say non divers on WUS, it is becoming more and more difficult to read the WUS dive forum so much inane B.S.

Ive always' hated the term tool watch! I see it like this, Is any watch not a tool to tell time? and ones that do more than just tell time can be a multi tool? or you can do like me and just call it a WATCH!!!

I think my Suunto Vector qualifys. Years of using the barometer and altimeter and compass as well as timer at work in fixed wing and rotory aircraft, and lots of time in some very high mountains where no RW asset is coming to get you . Timer used for operations and training. as well as over a decade of running most every day. An alarm that has woken me from a fine much needed but too short sleep thousands of times.
My fancy auto and quartz watches. Well as has already been mentioned I think the word "tool" has been uttered by my wife when she hears how much I paid.

So what about a grail tool watch that you don't wear since its an investment heirloom watch? Not cool, right?
"30ish years of martial arts and I've actually had the honor of training lots of LEO, spec ops and even SEAL team 6 on base, fitness training, not martial arts, but still the coolest thing I've done.
Full on egg head corporate job and I fly quite a bit so I'm really looking forward to adding to my collection of TSA friendly self defense tools. I have amcouple tactical pens, but I want to up the game and get into some custom stuff. Been watch obsessed for a while but this seems more fun.
Thanks for letting me play! "

What used to be referred as "sport watches" are now "tool" watches. IMHO it just differentiates them from dress watches.

I actually like the Rolex nomenclature of "professional watch".

Wearing the Exp II in the rear of an Antonov-12, about to dispatch $ to effect the release of a pirated crew and ship of the coast of Somalia.
A reliable & accurate dual TZ watch for me is a necessity when tracking numerous TZ's over a short period. Especially when liaising with the ships owner in Asia and head office in London.

Thanks gents, there's a lot of work done prior to this by the maritime legalo's getting the right clearances. I'm doing the final checks before throwing that bundle out. At two bundles weighing almost 25kg each I don't want to get hooked up as it leaves the AC, even though I have a safety line + harness with double anchor points, I'd come off second best.
I have a heap of others that I'll post in the RR when I have a chance. Thanks again Jules

It's pretty much been stopped by the naval intervention and armed guards on the ships the pirates target. This is a good thing, but was interesting while it lasted.

A master of his own universe.
When I hear "tool" I assume thick blockheaded person.
Hmmm. Anyway, it was always assumed by the current master bait crowd.. Spelling is noted
That James Bond wore an Omega. Ok, fooled by ads.
However, if you read the books by Fleming you find he wore a Rolex on a spandex band.
He used this as brass knuckles... Many times pointed out in the words on the page.
Every year, on Boxing Day, yes, google it.. He got a new one. That was a tool watch
Yes, I laughed at the master joke. Well played
