Panerai 026A ***DLC Restoration Project***

Post by Blasting&Coating » Tue Jun 18, 2013 5:36 am

Hi everyone,

I will not get you bored with alot of talking because the pics that are about to follow are pretty self-explanatory.

We are all familiar with the infamous Pam 026A and what great of a watch it is being destro. Well, time takes its toll to the old guys so they need a refreshment from time to time. In this particular case, this watch was completely refinished in every aspect.

Here are some of the things done to it:

1. Removing the old PVD coating
2. Getting out all the dents and inconsistencies from the case set
3. Beadblasting
4. DLC coating
5. Overhauling the movement and getting it cleaned each individual part in an ultrasonic centrifuge drum
6. Putting the watch back together
7. Pressure testing and regulating

Enjoy the pictures :)

Great stuff. I didn't know you could remove DLC.

Beautiful work no doubt. I wouldn't have touched it.
"30ish years of martial arts and I've actually had the honor of training lots of LEO, spec ops and even SEAL team 6 on base, fitness training, not martial arts, but still the coolest thing I've done.

Full on egg head corporate job and I fly quite a bit so I'm really looking forward to adding to my collection of TSA friendly self defense tools. I have amcouple tactical pens, but I want to up the game and get into some custom stuff. Been watch obsessed for a while but this seems more fun.

Thanks for letting me play! "

I like the way it looks bead blasted. Too bad it is a nightmare to maintain that finish.

I would agree with you on 100% if we were talking about a straight up SANDblasting with rough media (like Alu Oxide). The blasting media is the thing that finishes the surface determining the watch vulnerability against all sort of external damage.

The BEADblasting (from the pics) approach is in fact less promoting the external damage to occur than the flat out polished finish or brushed in the same respect.

Interesting. I think an older 000 or 005 might be a nice candidate for that.
