Clean Up Australia Day 2013: Diving with the OS300

Post by bedlam » Sat Mar 02, 2013 11:10 pm

For Clean Up Australia Day 2013 we went to the local fisherman's jetty to clean up underwater. Pulled 15 garbage bags of stuff and 3 deck chairs out from beneath Ammo Jetty near Woodman Point. The visibility is low because of some current and us churning the water a little as we pulled stuff off the bottom. The resident Lionfish and several octopi kept an eye on us.

The OS300 is a pleasure to wear diving. Its big but well balanced, the bezel is a joy, the crown is perfect and the dial visibility is as good as it gets. Some pics...

This Lionfish was fully checking me out - they are territorial and stay in one area.

Lionfish meets Octopus...The Lionfish played 'chicken' to within about 8 inches and then wisely backed out

My next dive will be on a wreck off the coast of Bunbury in the south west of West Oz with the Bremont Supermarine 500m.

Its a great thing and It has grown to be a real fixture for lots of clubs and community members to get involved with. Most of the rubbish is cans and bottles, there is tons and tons of stray fishing line too (that tangles fish). But deck chairs? People really can't find a better way to deal with them?? You have to wonder at the mentality.

A dive in Australian waters and with my favorite dive watch to boot. You're da man bedlam!

I wonder if MM300 owners have ever taken their watches diving like this. Especially if they are most active on WUS.

Not sure about any others but I posted some dive pics of the MM300 on DWC just before Christmas viewtopic.php?f=2&t=23503

Great pics mate, love seeing dive shots. I haven't dived in the ocean since last summer, and envy those who live close to good shore dives. The Orient certainly looks the business.

Thanks for the pics.

I lived in Bunbury as a kid, so would love to see some of that area too.

Haven't seen your posts for awhile on WUS so I assumed you were inactive there. Btw, that rubber strap seems different than the factory one, what strap is that?

Can't post on WUS since being perma-banned (for discussing on another forum that WUS sponsors may have been breaking the WUS Privacy Rules).

The strap on the OS300 is a Bennetto Cinturini 317 Italian rubber strap. Its a first class non-vent strap.

Killer pics! Keep these diving pics coming. And I must say, that OS300 is a really sweet piece, and looks damn legible under the waves. Talk about the maxiest of dials and hands.

Its also one of the few watches that maintains genuine wrist presence even when surrounded by the other dive gear.

Awesome event, results and pics! Man, I wish my local fishing place was as exotic (sans the invasive lionfish). My boys net minnows and some crayfish every once in a while, and fish for sunfish, perch, crappy, catfish and an occasional bass or gaspergou.

What could be better than sling something you love and helping the community at the same time. You and your mates set the example for others around the world.

And thanks for reminding me that my last dive was ENTIRELY too long ago.

Good stuff, Carl - and good on you for giving back to the REAL "Planet Ocean" (apologies to Omega ;) ), and for sharing the pics with people like me who haven't dived in while, and with those who may never have the chance in thir lives.
