Helson Shark Diver

Post by aztecknight » Wed Feb 15, 2012 7:55 pm

Picked this one up recently on a whim from JizJizJiz or Zack. I think what did it for me was the dial, great contrast and I really like the skeletonized hands. In addition, I've been looking to pick up something with a Miyota 9015 and this fit the bill. All the recent publicity Helson has been getting has been on the negative side and had kind of turned me off. The fanbois are especially annoying.

This one is supposedly a rare version 1 of 8 produced, but I think there were like 4 other versions; C3, blue lume, BGW9 and orange lume versions all sold out from what I can find. This one is the C3 lume. The dial has an inner AR coating, though I think it could use a couple of more layers. It came with a nice kit that included an unused bracelet and a rubber strap that resembles a Hirsch extreme though it's branded with Helson on it. Not sure if it is a Hirsch. I'm not in a hurry to try either out as I'm really liking it on the strap. The strap is comfortable, thick, and the keeper is branded with the Helson logo. I do wish the strap was a little longer. I'm wearing it on the last hole, and while it is comfortable, the strap slips out of the keeper often.

I really dig the dial and hands. It's a big watch, 45mm wide, 18mm tall, 24mm lug width. 2000M water resistant with an automatic HEV. Not sure how to describe the case, maybe square and angular. I like it though. The buckle is hefty and fits the watch well, I don't even mind the shark on it too much.

Of course, the lume is pretty cool. Lumed bezel and dial.

Bottom line, I like it and will keep it around for a bit. Helson did good with this one. Watch is keeping decent time, on the edge of what I'd like +10s/day. It's very comfy on the strap. It's different from most everything else I own, in a good way. Best part, even the wife likes it. Second best part, I don't think I'll take a big hit on it if I sell it. Thanks for looking.

Cool dial, it makes this version much more interesting than most other versions of this watch.
