Eterna KonTiki 1000 M Diver

Post by aikiman44 » Fri Dec 04, 2009 8:44 am

Regarding the flip up mechanism, though the minute circle on the outer edge of the dial is internal, it's adjusted by turning the external bezel. This can only be done when the PVD'd titanium case is released from the stainless cage (flipped up). When the case is locked down, the bezel is protected from accidental adjustments.
The crown has a unique gasket system and does not screw down for WR. It can be operated at depth, even with a gloved hand. Therefore, it's also protected in the flip down position.

I don't think I've seen that one before, Jay. Friggin sweet, though! What's under the hood?

Why does it flip up? Serious question.

In the first post I explain why there's a flip up mechanism.
The Kontiki Dive is not that rare, but until recently they were not available in the US. I think there was one Canadian dealer that was an Eterna AD.
They're pretty much being dumped now on fleabay. Seems that a bunch of gray market dealers acquired them. If you follow the completed auctions they're going for significantly less than even the normal discount prices. I'd followed the devolpment of this for a couple years, first seeing pictures in a 2005 Eterna catalog. In the past year a couple guys from Europe posted up theirs, the first I'd seen them anywhere.

I think that in the future, this watch will be one of those watches that collectors will flock to. I would recommend holding on to it.
