State of the Collection February 1, 2025

Post by smellody » Sat Feb 01, 2025 3:28 pm

Finally have a weekend with no obligations. Mack and I decided to organize the collection.

As you can probably tell, I'm a huge fan of these Bosphorus watch cases.

They are super quality, but I don't pay retail. So I find them cheap on a certain internet auction site.
Image

My first proper watch was a white 1680 Submariner purchased from Alex a Portland Waterworks for $1,400 in 1992 the summer after high school. I wore that watch daily for eight years until I had to sell to make a house payment. . . Then I was fortunate to get that watch back only to trade it off towards my 16718 GMT2. (I was going thorough a weird phase of being inconvenienced by non-quickset date functions. . .)

I finally have a 1680 back and it is a cracker red mark 4 with correct early 9315. With these eight, I'm probably done, but have dreams of 1) a big crown, 2) Blue 18k, and 3) modern ceramic (I owned one for a day and will get one again.

Current (and not going anywhere) Submariner lineup includes:
'54 6205 pencil ✏️ hand
'58 5508
'64 5513 gilt underline, pcg, all original complete one owner
'68 7298 last of the rose 🌹 dials and last gilt with the minute track being gilt
'71 1680 Red Mk4
Late 70 something Snowflake ❄️
'86 76100 blue Lolipop
'08 16610 one owner (Dad)

Next is my Speedking collection. I have great admiration for these old Oyster workhorses. If not for the durability of these WW2 era watches I doubt we would have the modern Oyster sports lines.
Image
The rest of my Rolex and Tudor collection ranging from a Canadian market Oyster Lipton and Zell Bros. Turtle 🐢 Timer to modern 116515 Daytona and 216570 PE2. Yes, and a handful of other gems.
Space in here for two more as I have a Monday arrival . . . Image
My massive Seiko collection.
Image
Most of my others. . . Although there are a handful of some additional about.
Image
I consulted with my financial advisor (Mack) and he told me to keep working on it.
Image
I'm probably good. If I died tomorrow I have been pretty successful. But, there is still an empty case. . .

Awesome collection and it's nice to see you still have an admiration for the lowly BASM's

Incredible collection. I'd be happy to have just one of those vintage Submariners.
