(Hodinkee) They Built a $100 Million Watch Empire. Then the Market Tanked
Re: (Hodinkee) They Built a $100 Million Watch Empire. Then the Market Tanked
that would be great, a good IWC would be a welcome addition to my collection.

Agree, modern Tudor is killing it right now, and makes it very hard for many, me included, to justify paying Rolex prices. That said, there's almost always something about all of these otherwise very nice Tudors that is a little off. Thickness, faux rivets, and grade 2 Ti on the Pelagos line all come to mind. That said, I absolutely adore my little BB58. It's a ton of watch for the money, and after wearing my 16600 all week it seems like it's easily just as good and probably better in many ways.

Agreed. The one I had was slab-sided, and to be honest it didn’t match the hype.demer03 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 08, 2024 5:18 amThe Thickness kill it for me. The Pelagos lineup is where it’s at for Tudor. They step out of the Rolex shadow unlike BB’s and are all interesting and easy to wear. All of the three hand FXD’s are thinner than a modern sub.demer03 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 08, 2024 5:18 amThe Thickness kill it for me. Add me to this list. Not at all a fan of the slab sides. I’d definitely own their white-dial GMT if it didn’t look like such a chunky monkey.demer03 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 08, 2024 5:18 amThe Thickness kill it for me. The new BB41 case eliminates a lot of the previous complaints about it IMO. I’m a believer after trying one on.

The Tudor/Kenissi movements are pretty awesome too. Robust, silicon hairspring, free spring balance, very good PR. They seem to be pretty incredible time keepers too. While not truly in house in the strictest sense of the term, hard to find anything else that matches them in terms of technical chops at the Pierce.

TBH, based upon my experience I find it hard to put a BB58 and a Sea-Dweller in the same class.dukerules wrote: ↑Sat Jun 08, 2024 4:34 amAgree, modern Tudor is killing it right now, and makes it very hard for many, me included, to justify paying Rolex prices. On paper, of course not. In the metal, it’s a different story. And the 16600 is my favorite watch of all time.

Re: (Hodinkee) They Built a $100 Million Watch Empire. Then the Market Tanked
My opinion is based upon in the metal as well. The BB underwhelmed. IMO, the bracelet is not the best, guess that’s why there are several aftermarket ones for the BB. My 16600 is a favorite.

Re: (Hodinkee) They Built a $100 Million Watch Empire. Then the Market Tanked
Someone posted that there's almost always something off about a Tudor reference, and this picture does a good job showing. I'm sure that the BB is a very nice watch, but that fake rivet bracelet just isn't working for me, and I really wish it did. A small BB diver with the Tudor glidelock seems, on paper, like a great choice. But I just know that I'd buy one, wear it a bit until the "new" wore off, and then pick a Rolex over it every single time I go to my watch box.
On edit: to be fair, I feel the EXACT same way about my two Omegas

Hodinkee just sold to Watches of Switzerland and Clymer is coming back to run Hodinkee. They can hold Hodinkee events at WOS stores - should be a good thing for both of them.

I think they have greatly overestimated the influence of Hodinkee.

Hondinkee is to watch enthusiasts as Jalopnik is to car enthusiasts. Right?
